Why?

Why haven't any of you with the 3.0's, alpine s and such bought this, it's a drop in the ocean? I admit, it would look stupid on my 2.0 but if I had a big one (fnarr fnarr), I'd have snatched it up. Ready steady go.

oh, sorry, it works on mine, heres the info anyway. Reg transfers, number plate ju51 zed, £764???????? Cheap as chips.

And only 599 from dvla.

If anybody is looking for a plate always check the dvla site first

I'll wait for my return to the states where personal plates really are cheap as chips. In Washington state they cost 44 quid. Which if I recall from my London trip. Is about what a fish & chips, Soda cost. In fact. I looked up "zed4" as a number plate in Wa. good to go. It's available and 44 quid.

Interesting to hear what Englishmen consider (cheap as chips)
Tell an American that he has to pay 764 quid for a vanity reg plate. You may get the hell beat out of you on the pretense that you were attempting to scam an obscene amount of money from him.

Ha ha ha, some places you wouldn't get fish for that. 44, that's cool, it takes the elitism of it but then I suppose, there is a keen second hand market, or do they have rules on that?

Never seen the point of plates telling you what the car is, a dateless personal plate would be best in the long run surely?

Once a person lets their "vanity" plate expire. The number/ letter combo goes back into the system. The state governments in the USA owns and issues all number plates. Basically. the car owner rents them for a yearly fee. If someone checks to see if that combo is available. Will see that it is or isn't. Pays the 44 quid to the government and gets a plate. Of course there are as many differing rules as there are states.

Neither could I. I like the puzzle/ Cryptic ones. Like "ou812" If you look at a plate number. Scratch your head a few times. Then slap your forehead and say "I get it now" that's a cool number plate.

Bugger!!!! I wish you lot had not brought this topic up. Just browsed DVLA site and found 2 appropriate plates. JD02 ZED and my favourite...JD52 ZED. Name John Duggan D.O.B. 1952. The best bit £250 including transfer fees! I am Very tempted  but know I would get grief from the passengers seat!! I need to think up a good case.
Regards, John Duggan aka The hairy angler. :driving:

I also dont see the point of car specific ones, just get a nice one and keep it for life... Sad as it maybe me and my father have sequential plates, my brother has a similar one, and now i am on the hunt for another one for my wife... Based on our surnames!

I used to have W111 GLL but the guy I sold the car to refused to give it back, odd as his name was andrew scott..... :headbang:

Both look wicked and for the money, you can't refuse it. It doesn't matter what it is if it brings a smile to your face and others.

.....................................................................................To answer my own post.....Discussed with my co-pilot...expecting grief...HOW MUCH? ...Only £250 all in..Thats reasonable ! I just stood there open mouthed doing my goldfish impersonation! Thanks Bing.

The plate works for me on car AND personal level. Name..John Duggan.
Year of birth 1952. Car BMW Z4 2004 reg. Hence JD 52 ZED.
Deed is done. slightly ironic that I am waiting for the log book to come back..then will have to return it along with new tax disc which i have just bought.

Just a thought. Will insurance company charge me for change of registration?

Now all I have to do is sort out water leak on drivers side. Seems to be coming in between inner face of door and door card and spreading from sill area into the cabin. Does this make sense? Car has to go back to dealer anyway. Handbrake cable needs tightening, petrol flap solenoid not working, and a strange walking stick shaped cable about 500mm long with white plastic handle found loose in the boot. It was not there when I first saw the car. Any ideas??

Top banana. Axa, my insurance company said today, if I do it online it won't cost a bean but if I phone, it'll cost about £40. Don't know about yours but there all a much of the same, In fact they all seem to own one another, I bet there are only about 10 actual insurance companies in the world, so I expect it will be free.
