Pa. woman, 85, makes burglar call 911 at gunpoint

Associated Press

POINT MARION, Pa. - A 17-year-old is in police custody after an 85-year-old woman held him at gunpoint and forced him to call 911 after police say he broke into her home.

Leda Smith says she heard the boy break into her home about 3 p.m. Monday. She says she grabbed a .22-caliber revolver she started keeping by her bed when a neighbor's home was burglarized a few weeks ago. She lives in Springhill Township, about 45 miles south of Pittsburgh.

Smith says she made the boy call the police and then held him at gunpoint until they arrived. Smith says the incident was "exciting" and she's hoping it ends a string of burglaries in the area.

The boy will be tried in Fayette County Juvenile Court. He's not being identified because of his age.

And now for the UK version of this story (fictitious of course ...)

London woman, 85, makes burglar call 999 at gunpoint

London, UK. - An 85-year-old woman is in custody after holding a 17 year old youth at gunpoint and forced him to call 999 after police say he broke into her home.

Leda Smith says she heard the boy break into her home about 3 p.m. Monday. She says she grabbed a .22-caliber revolver she started keeping by her bed when a neighbor's home was burglarized a few weeks ago. She lives in London.

Smith says she made the boy call the police and then held him at gunpoint until they arrived. Smith says the incident was "exciting" and she's hoping it ends a string of burglaries in the area.

The youth who can not be named for legal reasons, filed a complaint agains the woman for holding him against his will and for threatening him with a lethal weapon. The police wrestled the woman to the ground when arriving at her home whereby she broke a wrist and both her legs. She has been charged with attempted murder and kidnapping charges.

A police spokesman stated in an interview that the woman is a threat to society and will be forced to pay compensation to the youth who is traumatised by his ordeal. A woman's purse found on the boy could not be proven to belong to Leda Smith and was returned to the youth after she had taken it from him.

Really feel sorry tor the upstanding citizens in the UK that have to put up with that kind of nonsense :x

Here is the same story here in my home. Boy breaks in my home, I blow is fregging brains out with my sawed off shot gun. The ploice help me take the trash out. :)

Apparently in Vegas I'd have to prove that my life was in jeopardy for me to be able to shoot someone in my home. Reckon I should have two pistols and only handle one with gloves

That means you would need to kill the SOB so he could not claim he accidently broke into your home.... :P

You just grab one of your old kitchen knives and put it in his hand. I am old so any time a young guy is in my house my life is in jeoperdy. If it was in my yard that would be something else but in your house, maybe a slap on the wrist. :)
