Why would BMW make the antenna so big?

It makes no sense, no cars have antennas like that anymore? And mines a lease so I'm kinda screwed.

Why? Tiny stub aerial £8.95 on eBay, unscrew, replace, store old aerial, refit when returning car - job done!

 Aerials and mudflaps why do people get so hung up over such minor things :poke:

Standard one looks fine to me but then it must be a fad

The wire you see wrapping around the antenna and running the full length under the black plastic coating is used for Asian cell phones. Cheaper to build one model antenna than to make them market specific, or they had a bunch of old crap left over and cut a corner...

Bmw can make cars that don't have a huge aerials, my 53 plate E46 320ci coupe didn't have one :?

Cant see one on my wifes Audi either - so why do they bother!
They must have a reason. In my experience German engineers must always have a reason! :)

I have BMWs sport stubby on the Z3, haven't bothered on the Z4. The only reason I'd change it is down to it having a useful knack of poking you in the eye when washing :D
