Why oh why didn't they call the Z4M an M4...

well it is a Z4 so surely Z4M is right after all you now get X5M and X6M and they couldnt call them m5 and m6 could they

I've still never saw an X5M or an X6M on the road up here in Glasgow. I suspect they've sold next to non of those cars!

I think they removed the Z4 badge because the font just doesn't work alongside the M....both would look too busy?

I've put the deposit down on a Z4 M Coupe, its a 2007 (57) . Although I inspected the car, I thought thoroughly, on a second viewing whilst dealer looked at my P/X I noticed that the Z4 M Coupe has "M" badges on the front wings, but a "Z4" badge on the tailgate/ boot lid.

After reading this topic I hope that it is the previous owner's "sense of humour" rather than some bodyshop bodge-up!

Has anyone actually done this deliberately or "know" someone who has?

its probably an option... :)

I might put a Z4 badge on mine just to be different!

You can't do that now! That would be like me putting an ///M badge on my Z4. :o

Ah but my car is a Z4 but yours isn't an 'M' :poke:

I would say I'm about half way there... I've got an M steering wheel, M wheels.... erm.... M hardtop, M doors, M windows, M windscreen, M wipers, etc, etc.... :P

BMW North America also officially call the Z4M a 'M Coupe' just like the older Z3M Coupe.
In looking at a service order from my local dealer they have ID my car as a "2007 M Roadster"...

Just got an e-mail "Thank You" today from my dealer for a recent visit to store my winter tires. This is a screen shot from part of the e-mail message.

No mention of a Z4 but that of an M Roadster.

I usually call it an M Coupé - but it's also helpful to prefix that by the model (i.e. Z4 in our case, or Z3 in the case of the older version), so that it's either Z4 M Coupé or Z3 M Coupé.

It would make it easier to buy a car related plate, for sure:

M 4 XXX

:) As I say though it's a complete coincidence...have had it on 5 cars and it means something else. But several people have asked me if it's an M4....hmmm.

...and yes, my exhaust is now clean!

I'm looking at possibly getting:

M 4 BAT

Your sig in fact reminded me the BAT part would be relevant although I used to call my Sapphire Black Z3 'batmobile'.

There is also the song 'like a bat out of hell'

I have all the paperwork from when I bought mine new in 2006. It says no where on the paperwork that it is a Z4. It says M Roadster. My NJ vehicle registration also says it is an M roadster. All of my service slips form the dealer say they serviced an 06 M Roadster. I also printed the Factory Order tracking that shows it while in production. It calls it an M Roadster. The only place I can find that it is called a Z4 M is on the stupid sales brochure!

From the replies, I am concluding that it is most likely that a previous owner has done this for "fun". Which is OK, but I have asked the salesman to get me an "M" Badge so I can convert it back to the original specification, as regard to badging. After all I am buying an AUC from BMW and everything should be "correct".

I feared when I first noticed the Z4 badge on rear was that it was a mistake by a bodyshop and the car had been crash damaged / repaired. However, I can see from responses that Z4 / M badging is a contentious issue.

Continuing from the above post..

I have now found out from previous owner that the "Z4" badge was on when he bought it (with 28 miles on odometer - a BMW ex-demonstrator/ show car). My theory now is that the badge was taken off whilst in a showroom. The incorrect badge was then put on as a replacement.

I have now discovered a that there appears to be a catch missing from the bonnet (see photograph). Can anyone confirm that there is a part missing from here? Any help with part number / description?
