Why oh why didn't they call the Z4M an M4...

And the previous version was just called M Coupe. Annoying when you're trying to find it in the Evo knowledge section.

well it is a Z4 so surely Z4M is right after all you now get X5M and X6M and they couldnt call them m5 and m6 could they

I think autoglass have the windscreens on their system against an 'M4' rather than Z4M.... at least thats what they said when they ordered the wrong one at the fitting place.

It is an M4 anyway, isnt it 8), I dont think Porsche call it a GAYMAN but we all know thats the name :poke:

I may have missed something but - there are no Z4 badges on a Z4M. 8)

made me think, i went to the car and had a lool- there are no z4 badges on the car. i've had the car for nealy a year.

I've now had three people ask me about my "Z4 M3", I think calling it the M4 would have been better! People expect a number after the M.

Had someone walk up to me today to ask if it was the new Z4 while I was refuelling :o

You should say "yes, bastards put a roof on top of it and called it the new z4!"

I've put the deposit down on a Z4 M Coupe, its a 2007 (57) . Although I inspected the car, I thought thoroughly, on a second viewing whilst dealer looked at my P/X I noticed that the Z4 M Coupe has "M" badges on the front wings, but a "Z4" badge on the tailgate/ boot lid.

After reading this topic I hope that it is the previous owner's "sense of humour" rather than some bodyshop bodge-up!

Has anyone actually done this deliberately or "know" someone who has?

Annoyingly my plate starts M4. So people assume it's an 'M Z4'. Which just doesn't sound right to me...

It's a 'Z4 M Coupe' according to the DVLA...

BMW seem to getting themselves longer and longer model names with all the Xdrive is/si Msport lol.
Z4M works for me and I quite like the idea of a Z4 badge at the back, that's what it is afterall :)

From the replies, I am concluding that it is most likely that a previous owner has done this for "fun". Which is OK, but I have asked the salesman to get me an "M" Badge so I can convert it back to the original specification, as regard to badging. After all I am buying an AUC from BMW and everything should be "correct".

I feared when I first noticed the Z4 badge on rear was that it was a mistake by a bodyshop and the car had been crash damaged / repaired. However, I can see from responses that Z4 / M badging is a contentious issue.

Hey Trazom & Welcome to the forum.

Looks like you've got it in one, you're putting it back to how it should be.

Within minutes of me getting mine home I'd got all the badges off, think it looks 100% cleaner. If you don't know what it is, I don't want you to be able to read something to find out.
