Why o why do they do it?

Just wondered if you guys had experienced this sort of moronic behaviour. To celebrate sons exam results he and I took the MR on a road trip into Scotland and across to Oban on Friday, so after an excellent meal we decided to head home in the dark with the roof down. There followed one of the most memorable drives we've ever had. balmy night, fantastic empty roads ( A85 along loch Awe!) Anyway, about 12.30 am we felt a few spots of rain so hooded up just North of Coldstream on A697 and then the heavens opened, it was awful and driving conditions where terrible with poor visibility and flooded roads all the way To Wooler where I picked up a tail as we drove thought the town. This Vauxhall Insignia as it later proved to be followed me through the town and into the darkness tailgating so close I could barely see his headlights. As I mentioned the weather was awful and the roads in a proper mess and this clown was so close it was really dangerous so I decided to let matey boy past and on his merry way so I indicated, gently braked slowed to let him past. But he just slowed behind me so I continued to slow and eventually stopped. This tw#t was so close that he had to actually reverse to find the space to pull round me. I couldn't believe that anyone could drive so badly, I don't do road rage but I could have quite happily punched him on the nose for such twattish behaviour. Why do they do this?

Probably because he/she couldn't see a damn thing and decided to follow another car closely? (doesn't change the fact that it's a stupid decision)
Be happy there was no collision!

What can you say ?
I spend my life on the road and not just because I've become an old fogey and things were better 30 years ago.

I have to say Driving standards are worse now and the world is full of Knobs, maybe it's how they teach them now but common sense is out of the window.

I could lose it every day but it's not worth the raised blood pressure .

You did the best thing to pull up and let them pass

An insignia? I wonder if it was a badly behaved cop who, when it came down to it decided he or she didn't want to get wet?

We've had a few instances reported on here of them tailgating or charging up to someone to provoke them and then nicking them if they play

[sarcasm] I know that road - I was up there the other night in my Vauxhall Insignia. Came across some twat in a Z4 who pulled up right in the middle of the road! [/sarcasm]

:D

Had the same sort of thing last night, driving home at midnight and a 3 series estate tailgates me for a few miles. Got to a set of lights where 2 lanes go into 1 and rather than pull up next to me and get infront, said dickweed pulled behind me and continued to tailgate me.

I stayed at a steady 30-33mph, then it got to a 40 limit so sped up to about 42mph. Dickweed then flashes me twice, then gets so close I couldn't see his headlights, then pulls back and decides to overtake on a bend! I hate to brake to stop him having a head on collision with another car.

He then drove off and went through a red light. Complete and utter knob.

It's always people with shitty rep mobile cars who feel they have something to prove. I have a big penis already thanks, I don't need to nearly kill myself to prove how quick my car is.

Never been in that situation so have no idea how it feels , but again usually ignore speed limit signs

This sounds like a stolen car following you and wanting to steal a better car, then getting bored and clearing off.

I've had nobs properly lose their rag twice (both times in Manchester, not judging, just saying)Solution both times was to drive to nearest Police station and pull up, seems to get rid.

I also wondered if the Insignia was plod trying to goad you into a race, then nick you. Alternatively if it was plod, they might have wondered if the car had recently been stolen and was seeing if you were going to "fly". But, a simple stop would've sorted that out. Late night drives will always arouse suspicion amongst the boys in blue as this is the time the crims wake up and get busy.
