Well,after the warning lights coming on on the dash,I decided yesterday to take the wheels off and check connections etc,when I’d finished I started the car to put it back in the garage and I now have a loud tappety noise coming from the engine,so bad that I’m scared to drive it,I have absolutely no clue as to what it could be

Start the car and video with sound so we can hear the noise, could well be a sticking valve lifter, has the car been stood long without starting? How often has the oil and filter been changed?
Use an engine flush product added to the oil and let it run as per the directions on the product. Once completed drain and change the oil and filter. Common issue is sticking valve lifters, they get a covering of varnish over time, mainly due to infrequent oil changes.
