Great question. I'd like to know as well. Just because they're moving production, doesn't mean the cars weren't made there in the first place.

In all honesty, BMW Mfg likely wanted out of the HC business. Its expensive and lots of time to plan and manage logistically speaking. Production movement presented a good excuse...

You're probably right, but HC is one of those "feel good" events like the Ultimate Drive that, in the end, increase sales of cars and owner loyalty. It's easier (ie, cheaper) to keep a customer than to gain new ones.

It all comes down to $. BMW Mfg is finished with it as Phil said, BMW NA won't touch it. ZSCCA (a splinter group off BMW CCA) may have to open a regional gathering next year and see what the turnout is. There are several very strong Z3/Z4 ZSCCA clubs out there that could have success. Whether or not it turns into a national event is yet to be tested. BMW Mfg subsidized this event big time. With a $40 registration fee, this barely covers the printed material let alone all the 1st class events/food/entertainment that is provided. ZSCCA doesn't have anything near the funds needed to pull anything off. Even a $100/person reg fee would only scratch the surface but not by much. I honestly think this is it. It had a great run. The plant, the museum, the performance center and especially the excitement the attendees achieve will not be replaced anytime soon.

When Mark & I seen Ken Sparks in June we ask him about the HC. He said that the car isn't going to be made here any more and there might be a chance that it will be held over seas. But the Z3 or Z4 was not made there so I don't see how that would work either. He also pointed to X6 when we ask him about HC. Now fat chance that car would have the interested people in it like us. Hopefully we can all figure out something for next year. It would be nice to have a central location so nobody has to travel to far. I am sure the people out west would agree to that.

All strong Z3/Z4 clubs have an opportunity to get a gathering going on. The ZSCCA in So Cal is also a dominant force, however, migrating to a unknown, unproven venue on the west coast may be logistically and other considerations difficult and/or impractical.

The only issue I see in doing it central is getting people to do the leg work and all that goes with putting thing together. The registration and that piece can be done from anywhere. It's the feet on the ground part that is a bit harder. IMHO

I do like hearing that people are expressing an interest though.

Bob, it would have to be in a destination location, i.e. Octoberfest that CCA has. KC, Indianapolis, Minneapolis etc are not destination cities. Denver, DFW, Santa Fe, San Antonio amongst others, are.

It would be cool if the "Roadster Reunion" could be taken on the road, to places that have large-scale racetracks that would allow suitable gathering areas and driving events. In the US there are several potential places, like Laguna Seca, Indianapolis, Texas Motor Speedway, etc... I'm sure there are European locations that would be awesome also. I wonder if those types of locations would be interested in hosting an event like this as a PR thing? The logistics of it could be a nightmare though. I wonder if BMW, in their German efficiency, have developed any detailed logistical planning documents for this type of event that could be used by host locations?

The interesting thing is that it would not need to be at the same place every year...it could be a movable feast. Still, some organization would probably need to take ownership of the event, and what organization would have enough resources, willingness, and ability to do that?

Germans have an innate ability to document everything and to the smallest detail. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if they have anything that would be applicable to the US market. It would be nice they did.The BMW CCA Event Master would have that, IMO.

Please do not take me wrong. I just do not want to loose the comunity that has come together for 12 years to be lost.

I think the though processes going on here are nothing short of great. I'm not going to take anything personal, and don't you to either. I know that the ZSCCA is working on things as well. I am not sure what all their thoughts are to this point, however, I am sure there will be more information put out during HC 08. I would like to have my DUCKS in a row when things start coming to a head. I just want to be welcomed where ever the events are. :roll:

I would hope that the national office recognises that it would take a certain leader to coordinate/delegate/officiate an undertaking such an event once HC is officially over.

I would, within my geographical area, promote an event to the utmost, if I would be called upon to do so.

I agree, I have seen that in action. I just hope I don't come off that way.

I hope you don't mind me chiming in. I am tring to get input from everywhere I can so I can take concerns to the meeting.

The main reason I look towards the ZSCCA as having the best chance to pull it off is that they actually have cars envolved currently. I have no idea how many Z owners belong to the BMWCCA and are actually active, I have met so many Z's that did not even know that there are forums out here and or clubs.

I have no idea wheather the HC crew would or could share e-mail contacts from the events that have happened over the years legally.

If someone had some pull with the HC group and could list current forums available might help also. Give people somewhere to turn.

Bob, you will definitely have the opportunity to discuss this with the right contacts at HC. Their leadership will be tested by how they handle this issue, especially when they have a captive audience.
