Why no 4WD for BMW?

When Audi seem to do everything in Quattro....and even Merc now on some of their AMG variants.....why does BMW not think there is any benefit of 4WD on their main cars...

Just curious....as Audi do seem to do well from the option and obvious sales benefit.

It,s already happening mr S 8)

They do:

They also tried it in the '80's.

BMW's "USP" or at least their area of marketing focus is rear-wheel-drive cars for people who like to drive, whereas Audi's focus is quattro, following their rallying heritage. That probably explains the focus - just marketing really.

Why would people in the UK need 4x4 in their car anyway? I live in a fairly remote location and have never got stuck. The right tyres makes more of a difference IMHO (otherwise scandanavian cars would all be 4x4 and they're not).

Why would you want it.!!!!!

4X4 is fine for your family wagon but can you imagine if all the fun cars were 4wd. That would make a real boring car..

911, R8, Gallardo ? Are they not fun cars?

It's a shame we don't get the xDrive M135

X drive has been out for years, just not as popular in the UK

My neighbour had an E34 525ix
similar to this years ago

Issue back in the day was right hand drive, BMW never made them due to technical difficulties. I saw an E46 X drive a year or two back, but was a left hooker.
