Why is this happening?

I'm sure this is not unusual, but its new to me! so, now and then the roof motor sounds great but operation of closing seems to get slower and slower until it stops and then falls back. leave it 10 mins and hey presto, its closes! the window operation when the roof finally does close, fails to raise the windows automatically. is this just the standard roof motor failing? i am confused so any advise would be appreciated.
I thought that when the roof motor failed it simply stopped working. :headbang:
thanks in advance.

Roof & Window issue could point to battery power, so has that been checked?

Was thinking the same. I have issues as well when the battery is low. Fully recharged and everything works like a charm.

Kat,

The battery is the first thing came to mind for me as well - low battery charge. Do you have the engine running when you open and close the roof? Have you tried operating the roof after a run with the engine running and revs at about 1500?

:driving:

It's recommended that you only open and close the roof with the engine running. As above, you might need a new battery if yours is struggling

Good to know, I didn't know that was recommended

Thanks for all of your replies, I appreciate it. The battery is certainly good enough to start the car with o signs of lack of power, however I have not noticed wether I have been operating the roof mech with or without the motor running, thats my next step. keep you informed, thanks all again. :D

Starting the car doesn't require a fully loaded battery, but some other functions do.

It makes the gaptech a very naughty mod, but worth the risk in my opinion :)

I have a gaptech fitted, would iy make any difference ? I am going to try the roof later with and without the motor running at 1500 rpm to see if thats the problem. It confused me when I could hear the roof motor running but the roof going up really slowly and sometimes simply not making it all the way.

Well, once again thank you all for your replies. I have just tried the roof operation and it was quite remarkable, with the engine switched off, the roof motor ran, the roof almost lifted and closed but then failed and slowly dropped back. windows did not operate properly.
Engine running at 1800 rpm. roof motor operated at a higher rate and the roof closed properly with no hesitation at all. windows operated properly.
Thank god for that! i just could not have afford a roof motor at this time, so again, thanks for your advice. :D
Battery is now on charge!

Check battery voltage to see if you actually do have a weak battery. I would also check my alternator voltage output at idle, 1200 /2500/3500 rpm. If the voltage output remains in the 13.7-14.5 range all is good. If the voltage output increases as the rpm's increase...then you likely have a voltage regulator issue in your alternator. It only requires a cheaper multimeter to do these simple tests.

Thanks, I have a multimeter and will check this today. :D

Well I have checked the voltage of the battery at 1500 and its good at 14.25v and at idle its 12.25v, the roof motor always works and sounds normal. Most of the times the roof operates normally but every now and then it struggles to raise properly. I am wondering if the problem may simply be a lack of hydraulic pressure. :headbang:
