Why is my TV French??

I wonder if anyone with the TV option on their sat-nav can shed any light on why all the on screen options are in French? There is no problem with the actual channels and I have checked that the region is set to the UK which it is. Any ideas?

Since I've been messing with it I have also lost a lot of digital channels that I had previously, any idea how to get these back? I have rescanned, but do I need to do this again in a place with better reception?

Toggle the speedcams on and off in Settings - changes the language to French or English

You're right, what's all that about? Can I not have English unless I also gave speed camera alerts?? Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

Yep, knew that was the case. Anything wrong, it is always the French

Put in an OEM disk and you have no probs, put in a copy - and you will have that issue with the language.

Its to do with the hack needed to provide speedcams - basically they overwrite the language settings off the OEM disc to provide a speedcam on/off option. Whilst it works with speedcams, it changes TV settings (and some other options, like Bluetooth phone synch) to French. So you need to switch speedcams off to set the TV, Bluetooth pairing etc.

Or buy an OEM firmware disc and lose the speedcams.

I have a 2006 OEM disc but wanted the update to a 7 digit postcode search which I don't believe even a newer BMW disc will have, is that correct?

Yep, correct. I have the OEM 2011 disc, and only has basic postcode unless you install a different level of firmware. Its not the navigation DVD, its the underlying firmware that provides postcode search and speed cameras. You will (or a previous owner) probably have loaded v32.2 firmware at some stage.

7 digit postcode is a custom POI database on the map discs from Jolly Roger Software companies, it's not a f/w update. Alternatively you can make your own POI database and make a new map disc using your original and pimp-my-nav software or similar.

My understanding was you needed the firmware hack to enable the 7 digit postcode, as well as the map disc, Stuart? Isn't that correct?

Nope. I have speed cameras on my disk, but no alert. I can see and search for speed cameras, but if I want alerts I'd need the f/w. The same thing applies to the postcodes. They're loaded as a POI database and you can search for them in the info menus.

There might be a f/w hack that enables 7 digit postcodes from within the normal address entry, but I'd stay well away from them. But then my view on the f/w mods is not exactly a secret! (and maybe justified when you see all the "French" challenges people are having)
