Why E89 stopped

I think I must be the only person who doesnt like the i8.
When you see one you think "Oh theres an i8" but then look at it and think its bloody ugly.

Possibly the sales were so low it made no sense to keep a production line running that could be used for another model.
 
Believe viable 2 seaters exist either in MX5 territory (the budget end)... or full on exotica

As mentioned above, declining sales as there’s not enough people paying for middle ground cars, as at this price point there’s plenty of practical saloons of similar capabilities to spend your cash
 
That's the problem with the Z4, it's not as good as a Boxster or as flash as an F-Type - but miles ahead of an MX-5. I was under the impression they're aiming more at the F-Type end for the next model, but I can't say it looks worthy of the price tag!
 
Compared to the Boxster and TT, the Z4 is far superior in looks. To me thats key, as performance is similar. I would never buy an ugly car. Porsche sell because, well, because its a Porsche. The TT always gets a great write up, but to me is just to sensible to class it as a sports car. Maybe the Z4 is a bit too niche, at the wrong price point? Can't see the replacement selling well. Bet the Toyota does though.
 
If its not making money you stop production. I've had mine for 3 months and my views are:

The good..
It's drop dead gorgeous.
Wind in the hair motoring
OK cruiser

The bad..
The incar tech is outdated
Dynamically its bad compared to the competition. I've had 5 Boxsters and they're in a different league. I drove a standard spec 2018 118d and its a mile better than my e89 2.0. The ride, feel and turn in are much better.

It's a looker not a driver. I'll may out mine soon.

Sounds like I am one of the few that love it. (Along with Clarkson). They drive like a dream and don't be fooled by the 3 cylinder engine stuff, that's only for the rear wheels and it goes like stink in full sports mode with the electric engines assisting on the front wheels. The road holding is like nothing I have driven before which include Ferrari's and top end Porsche's. The names already down for an afternoon at least with the roadster. As I say that set up in the smaller Z4 would have been sensational

Try the 35is and you will change your mind big style on every count. It's a different beast altogether :evil:

I have had a few boxster s and cayman s and 997 911 c4s and as an all rounder the 35is is a better car to live with. The 911 was a disappointing experience but scratched an itch, the boxsters are good point to point but not great to travel any distance , the same with the cayman as they are noisy with rubbish tech. They are better at being track or sports cars, but as a gt with a touch of sports car... the 35is beats them all, just like to add that I don’t find any of the cars including the 35is particularly fast, but the bmw does the straight line stuff with the least drama.

absolutely!
my e85 was over at our local Porsche dealers last Saturday, no not for servicing.
my mate is their detailer, and gave mine a full machine polish.
but the point of the reply is, they all said how the e85 was a far better looking car than the equivalent boxster of its age :)
