Why doesn't facelift roof lock down when lowered but older cars do? pics/video

In order to try to mitigate the wear on my roof when folded, I have stuck some black electrical insulating tape onto the rubber on either side where contact is made. I don't know whether it's doing any good but it provides a smoother surface than the rubber trim and is all but invisible.

Apparently the whole roof assembly is adjustable via a couple of bolts which are accessible either side when the hood is down, the limiting factor being the front catch over the windscreen. I remember there being a post about it, it's a half hour job apparently and an independent specialist seemed to know what to do. However, I live in Scotland and I can't find a specialist who knows what I'm talking about.

There is also an adjustment that you can make to the E85 to stop the roof from 'slamming' into the windshield frame when closing, ie, making it a 'softer' impact. Not sure if it's related to the closed-roof adjustment gap between the soft top roof and the rear of the car. The cynic in me thinks if you adjust to fix one, it'll bugger up the other  :?

Edit - sorry, that fault is not related, and is fixed by fitting two bow straps to stop the roof slamming when closing, or dropping heavily into the rear compartment.
Apologies for thread hijack.

Hi had the same problem. Mines a facelift 2006 3.0si and roof light was flashing whilst driving with it down on bumpy roads and as the roof jumped up slightly right light would come on. I guessed mine didn’t have a latch but after checking it does but wasn’t locking into place when coming down.

Took rear cabin panel off and adjusted the bracket and now seems to lock.

I also adjusted the roof slightly as one side seemed to lower further than the other. Was just 2 screws on the main arm to loosen off, have somebody push roof down into desired location and re tighten the screws.

Roof now locks, sits more level and no red light.
