Why does it say test on dash?

If I press and hold the s/r button on the dash (just under speedo) for around 3 seconds, why does it say "TEST" on the display and on pressing the button again and again it cycles through numbers 1 to 8 on the right and other numbers appear where the milage normally does?
 
That is to reset service intervals for oil/insp and brake fluid changes.

Probably has other functions too if you know what the codes mean.

Best to stay out of there. I reset my brake fluid service instead of oil one by accident. Will still do it by the book anyway, but it's nice to have the car saying the right thing (doesn't now :roll: )
