Right first thing I admit to being an old git - I'm past 60 and although I feel the same inside as I did at 30 the years continue to roll by relentlessly. I am formally retired but have not yet reached state pension age and I fully intend to carry on as disgracefully as ever until I snuff it.
What does really get up my nose is the way elderly people are treated in this country. It seems as soon as you pass the big 60 you become a nuisance to society. You get a free bus pass but are told you must never use it before 930am or after11pm and must never be used for leisure trips( trips specifically designed for tourists ) At the same time we are bombarded with idignation from fee paying passengers for taking up spaces and costing taxpayers more money despite the fact that we have paid upfront taxes all our working lives. Then as you get really old you and you need care then you 're forced to sell your house to pay for it.
The latest idea the present government have come up with is to encourage old people living alone in their big houses to downsize and allow younger bigger families to live there - presumably by the local housing association to buy up your house ( in most cases that you have finally paid for over decades ) and give it to more "deserving" people.
Al these bureaurcrats would do well to remind themselves one day they will be old !!
Well thats feels better now I've got that off my chest - think I'll go and terrorise the local population with a burn with the old zed - bugger - just remembered I've Sorned it - will have to wait a couple of months when hopefully Im still above ground.
