Why do I fear the Zed?

You may have hit the nail on the head there Breaker. Personally i wouldnt push it too much on the open road, already been bitten once. Would leave that for a trackday.
Also, theres more fun to be had in a Zed than a hot hatch imo :poke:

I watched this video again last night too and it really shows what a skilled driver can do in a Z4 with zero mods. Sure, more power, better suspension, bigger brakes, etc...are great, but nothing beats skill. Looked like so much fun.

I went from an S2000 to a Z4 2.5si. I found that the Z4 was very sure footed and had a lovely flow into and out of the twisties. The car felt very balanced if ultimately a little less exciting than the S2000.
When I went from the 2.5si to the 'M' I tried to drive the car the same way, smooth into the twisties-- It took me a little time to realise it's a totally different car to drive. The Top gear review sums the car up pretty well, you've got to show it who's boss. It shows that in the right hands it is a very very quick car. :)

This sort of goes back to an old comment of mine on another thread. Can you really get the best out of a 3.0si on normal roads driving within road limits, never mind an M!

Without a doubt NO! And yet I'm still trying to get my hands on a Cayman S.

Maybe not in the States, but it's easy enough here. :D

I'm finding my Z4 just brilliant everywhere really.

Ditched the RFT's and that twitchness just goes and it starts to feel like any other car... the limits are high, but I think in plenty of the right places you can push and feel around them... also, alot more feel and enjoyment of feeling up to the limits from even 5/10ths is there now, where it wasn't before. I am also learning the car more and more.
I'd never go near the limits at higher speeds (who would in any car?), but in the lower gears using all the revs out of corners and letting the nose tip off the apex as you add power is a lovely feeling, even if you are only at 7/10ths there is plenty of fun to be had.

I'm currently learning how much more grip there is in rwd from apex to exit, the car just grips and grips, so being smooth is key, rather than just riding out the understeer until you get full traction, on the soft turbo lagged delivery most modern hot hatches do these days... (easy)

However you view it, easy fast is dull, involving challenging fast is fun, and the Z4 is more towards involving challenging fast. Of course it's not as involving as an Elise, but I'd say it's one of the more challenging chassis out there to get the best from, which is no bad thing.

If the Z4 was just fast and easy to go quickly, it'd actually be much less appealing. Infact the loss of the RFT's has made it easier to go quicker and I miss the fidgeting on some roads because they kept you on your toes, but what is left is still a healthy dose of pulling and tugging compared to 'normal' cars so I'm happy still, a better blend I rekon :D

I have a journey that I do very regularly now, city/suburbia then A-road and around 80 miles altogether, I alternate between my Micra and my SLK, and for 85% of the time then I am held up by someone else, and that is in the Micra

Unless you live in the Scottish Highlands or something, then apart from 60-90 seconds here and there inbetween 10-15 minute periods of behind stuck behind some gimp, there is no chance of driving our cars hard in the UK.

If you get off the main roads there is plenty of open roads to play on though...

You sir are playing with my emotions.

You sir, are making me feel better after someone played with my emotions.

I'm going to request a tour guide for the best roads to drive hard on for when I get out there. Can I borrow Lucy?

Yep, the Z4 is coming with me. I'm going to try to ship it early so it can be waiting for me when I get there. If not I'll get Lucy to drive me around :P :poke: :poke:

Well after swapping my 3.0si for the M for the weekend (my mates) I can say that it's just my 3.0si that I dont like driving! More mods will come soon, including a swap in the tyres!

I found the M so much easier to drive, and when my mate was literally sliding it round round abouts it made me see how good the car actually is! I also figured the "close call" in my 3.0si was simply the car catching the backend before I could! More practice needed then, and I should be all good again! End of the day its only been a month in, and in this month i've not seen much dry road so ... BRING ON THE SUMMER!!!

Modding a car won't make it any better if you don't know what you are fitting, or what you are expecting from it.

I'd start with the tyres first and foremost!

Dont you worry yourself about the modding, this wont be the first car I've modded!

Tyres will come first, but then I have other plans too...

Thats an odd comment if I'm honest. The M is a lot less forgiving in my opinion.

How do you feel when you ar back in yours now? Have you felt any better since? Is it your driving style? Your mate can slide it round roundabouts - did you?

I'm always faster when I'm driving a car not owned/insured by myself - I think they call it TWOC'ing or joyriding :P

Maybe the M is easier to drive as there's less interference by the electronics? If I go onto a roundabout and plant my right foot, then the DSC will light up and I'll lose power, however if I drop of the revs and then plant it again it tends to slide the back end around nicely.
