Why Didn't you buy a Boxster 987?

according to the press and everyone who has driven them, the Boxster IS the better car!
So what are your reasons for buying the new Z4 instead?

i really did not like the ride of old Z4 but the new one looks a different animal
just sold my 986 Boxster and looking at this car as:

i can get a newer one for the same price
Boxster 987 is still based on the original 1996 model
986 did cost me a bit to maintain
hardtop should make it quieter
better spec

but is this enough to justify not getting another Poesche?
what were your reasons?

I prefered the Z4 looks and I don't like cloth folding roofs and I don't like the Boxsters interior. Like the way they drive though.

the styling of the z4 m sport is beautiful. the new boxster is quite nice too but i prefer the z4

also fundamentally i dont think porsche would be able to offer me the same pcp plan as bmw did or the free 3 year servicing

aside from the lack of performance on the 20i, i cant fault anything else

edit: just specced up a boxster to as close to my spec as i could get it and it comes in at 45k....... no chance i would pay 15k extra for the porsche as i would much prefer a 35is instead

Before buying my Z4 I tried a couple of Boxters, as well as several S2000s; my decision was pretty much made for me as I wanted a car that I could drive on a daily basis, as well as keep my servicing costs under control. The S2000 was simply too focussed, a brilliant track car, or for when hooning along B roads was the name of the game. The Boxters were similar, with a tendency to bring out the more assertive driving style 8) . The Z4, especially the E89 is more relaxing to drive when all you want to do is get from A to B comfortably and quickly, but still with the capability of allowing you to have fun when the conditions allow :D .

It doesn't have a folding metal roof but it was my 2nd choice.

+1 other two choices were Cayman S or Z4MC, we weren't particularly looking for a convertible/roadster, but really liked the retractable hard top on the E89 and the styling of the E89 top up or down.

I had the chance for a good close up look at the new Boxster S at the weekend, metallic black with beige leather interior, it looked fantastic, however once you're at a reasonable spec they are well over £50K.

A Boxster is my dream car, has been for many years. However, I know nothing about them or the Porsche range at all. Therefore I don't know the running costs, but as I need to use my car daily for work (I commute to GP surgeries as an IT Support Monkey) I just assume the running costs would be too expensive. To be honest, the Z4 is probably the least practical car for my work...and estate car would be better, but I can fit some equipment in the boot and afford to run it. I don't actually know what a Boxster is to buy or run, but I do like lots of toys and seeing some of the previous comments I could never afford one. I was only able to get the Z4 due to the Q1 deals this year.

When I was looking to replace my z4mc I did go and look at a cayman it was a nice car to drive but

it started to get very expensive once you started to spec it up

The salesman was not really that bothered about selling a car or at least thats how it seemed to me not least because when asked about trade in on the z4mc got a reply of hmm thats a rare car I will have to see if we can pass it on , I will let you know , except he never did so I went back to my BMW dealer who actually made me a better offer than I was expecting

When will these people learn that poor customer services costs them business? Living in a rural town all we hear is that we should support local business - which is fine, but when the customer service is crap it makes you wonder why you should bother!

one of the main reasons i ended up buying my z4 was because of the sales guy. he was very helpful and went the extra mile to get my custom....... i initially only got in touch for a quote and wasnt even really interested in buying one but im glad i did and the whole process was very smooth from beginning to end

Exactly, I really don't get why certain people work in sales, when they don't make the effort to engage their customers. It's not difficult, at a high level: be polite, listen to your customer to understand their needs, understand their budget, be honest and present the most appropriate options.

I want a roadster with hard-top roof. I will only go for Cayman S.
+1

After owning coupes/sedans for years, I just wouldn't be comfortable without having a hard top.

Plus, the E89 Z4 is just awesome. Unique car and a blast to drive. Perfect blend of sport and luxury.

I looked at the boxster, but the new one was due, the second hand boxster was more expensive then the z and liked the folding hard top, if I was buying now and could get a new shape boxter with similar spec to my z (nav xeonons etc) for the price of the 987 I looked at I would be driving something from stuttgart rather than munich now

Update

bought a Z4 E89 2500cc manual

main reasons were the more modern design and refinement. plus got a 59 plate Z4 under 10000 miles compared to an 07 Porsche, plus i dont have to worry about expensive bills hopefully especially as it cane from a dealer with 12 months warranty

sure when i get it a will find more reasons :)

Didn't buy a Boxster because the dealer would offer ZERO movement on the price.

Wanted £30k with 8,000 on the clock on a 10 plate. Ended up getting a 10 plate 35i with all the toys with only 2,500 on the clock for a good wedge less.

Oh and the forums better
