Why did you buy your Z4?

It's known that girls love the ZED and it's always getting attention where I am (which I secretly love/ girlfiend hates it)....

Not sure how old you are Ste but assuming your around my age you will get the odd idiot assuming its your "parents" car or that its been funded by thems, annoys me.

Haha top man. Then again the girls in Barrow are impressed by a tattoo of a chinese symbol that probably means "chicken fried rice" and a vaguely orange complexion, so it doesn't take much.

Yeah I'm 20 at the moment, will be 21 on christmas eve so getting the car after that. My 22 year old brothers got a brand new A3 and gets that quite alot, will be more jelousy then anything else being in a strongly working class town with more then its fair share of muppets to be honest :)
 
Really? You guys attention from girls? You're all liars. The Zed is like a peado machine, small boys cannot stop looking at it. I had two say 'nice car' to me just yesterday.
Now if my missus is drivng it then its totally different and men STARE.

I've noticed this too.

Also the small boys/girls who live close by actually ask if they can wash it.

This weekend was all about teaching the two bucket method. Small boy couldn't wait to get his hands on the pressure washer.

I'm currently milking this for all i can. Its when they start asking to be paid it's going to stop :lol:

Reasons i bought mine,

Looks good,
Drives well,
No need to modify/mess with it.

Had it just approaching 4 years and still not bored of it :)

They're also an absolute bargain at £7000 now (3.0l pre facelift). If you find a good un of course. Lot of car for the money.
 
You must understand tho <22 and having a 3.0l zed ... People will question it. Doesn't matter if you've worked your ass off etc. how do you get round extortionate insurance?
 
My insurance quote is going to come in at about £1052 a year. I pay £922 a year now for a 1.3 Corsa diesel. To be honest when you're young you just get used to quotes around a grand, doesn't even occur to me thats expensive.
 
@ domsz4 - With a clean license my insurance is down to £1400 a year, would be £900 next year BUT I am planning on changing the ZED when it's due for renewal and getting a Porsche 911, always been a dream.
 
When considering what to change my company car to 4 years ago I could have 3 test drives (was after an auto BTW, lots of miles) :

1. Mondeo - sensible choice - brand new model at the time, all the toys, but they gave me an estate. Killed it stone dead for me.
2. Mercedes C class - aspirational choice - also a brand new model at the time, loved the dash and gearbox, hated the plastics, and they gave me a wine coloured car. Felt stone dead (reeeeaaaalllly old) in it.
3. BMW Z4 Roadster - fun waste of a test drive - wanted a 2.5 auto roadster to test, "Sorry sir, we only have one auto available - it is a 3 litre coupe, will that do ?" Well of course I said "no, it's a coupe you fool"... Actually, I didn't, drove waaaay over the mileage limit and fell in love. Just like my wife had told me I would. Nearly bought that actual car, but it was v expensive and I wanted a roadster.

A 2.5 pre-facelift came up on our re-allocated list (people leave and hand cars back early, still have life in them) and I grabbed it. Had to hand it back after a year, cried. Heart now set on getting a 3.0Si 3 years later, I worked my ass off to save a deposit in amongst paying for everyday life, then last September Mission Accomplished :thumbsup:

Desire, determination to have one of my own, and a love of the whole package are my reasons for buying my baby - looks, power, RWD fun, handling & roof down motoring. Plus the memory of the HUGE grin that stayed plastered to my face for hours after flooring the test drive car out of the Dartford crossing tolls in sport and manual. I never forgot that moment for 3 years, and I love having the same feeling again and again now I have one of my own :driving:

My reasons for buying an ///M in the future will be simpler - that engine, the colour and because The Plan has succeeded...

Worth saying that I don't need it to get girls, the one I have already is perfect - however the couple of girls I have been allowed to speak to have judged it a sexy car :P

nice :) thats pretty cheap for the insurance. i pay over 900, full ncb no accidents etc.

- Unique vehicle / Rarity (I only buy rare or unique cars)
- Colour Combination (Black / Red)
- Something to impress the ladies
- Something a bit special
- Coupe

Heh! That's exactly what I've experienced (on both counts).

Why buy? Well, I really, really missed having a convertible. I also wanted a nice bit of 'oomph' when driving so narrowed it down to Z4 / S2000 / Boxster. In the end, the Boxster was just too dated in terms of look (not a design classic and after owning a Porsche before I was dreading the repair bills). The S2000 was pretty good however the looks, driving and all round performance of a nicely specced Z4 really sold it for me (plus I have an excellent BMW Indie Specialist just round the corner)!

This is my first BMW, having purposely avoided them due to the 'arsehole' factor of certain drivers. I'm aiming to be the nicest, most indicating, small car letting outerer BMW owner in my area!
 
As I come from a motorcycle background. I wanted a car that was as close to a motorcycle as a car could be, something that went around corners quickly, was comfortable. Also, At one point in my life I had owned a 1969 Corvette roadster. The Zed has the same shape. "that's a good thing"
 
Instant classic.

The coupe, to me, is the Frank Gehry of automotive art ... a deconstructed cubist slice of genius. One can peer at its interplay of convex and concave lines ... almost like some mathematical fugal puzzle ... without ever becoming bored. Magic.
