Firstly I must apologise as this is going to be a bit of a frustrated rant and If you have read my previous posts sorry for repeating some of this story

when I bought my car (6 weeks ago) it had an airbag fault which was I was told was a simple sensor fault and it was being repaired by a local BMW specialist. This turned out to be a bit more involved and needed a wiring loom replacing behind the dash
As I was going on holiday for 2 weeks I arranged to leave the car with the garage I bought it off who would take it to the specialist when the loom arrived so the car would be fixed for my return.
Fifteen days later I went to collect my car only to be told that the airbag light was sorted but it had developed a central locking fault and the GM5 module had been sent off for repair
After another 2 weeks of calling the specialist every few days and being told that the module wasn't back I rang this morning and was told that the car was sorted but had to be completely re coded and that this could take a few hours and to call back later this afternoon
when I called back I spoke to a different receptionist who didn't know anything about my car. She went off to the workshop to check on progress only to come back and tell me that it was not being re coded but that they still hadn't even received the module back yet
At this point I was starting to lose my sense of humor so I rang the garage that I bought the car off (and who is paying the bill) to see if they could find out what was going on with the car

Apparently my car is not even at the garage that I thought it was at . The module had come back after having new relays fitted and the fault was still there . The place that repairs the modules said that they needed the car to carry out further checks with the module in situ, the car has been taken there and that is where it is now, wherever that is
I have been assured that my car is being professionally repaired but I worry about the fact that they lied to me , why did they not just tell me the truth
It doesn't help that I have had dreams about my car being smashed up and I'm getting a bit paranoid now that they are hiding something from me

I have to ring back Wednesday lunchtime now and will hopefully finally get my car back. I have forgotten what it looks like as they have had it more than me , I think I have only done 100 miles in it since I have had it

End of rant

All sounds a bit fishy... is there any way you can pop to the garage and have a look at the car? If nothing else, it would help to put your mind at rest...

I'm no expert but I would think you have grounds to now reject the car based on the fact that it is not fit for purpose.

First thing is take some proper legal advice, try your local trading standards office at the council.

+1. Time to think about a different one...

I certainly would want to see the car, but it could be time to think about rejecting the car. I would have seen red by now. Good luck!

Typical garage bullshite to be honest. It's obvious they're hiding something so if I were you I'd find out exactly where the motor is and take and independant expert along for a really, really thorough inspection before you even think about accepting the repair.
Bear in mind that if you accept the repair and it goes tits up in a week then you haven't a leg to stand on, hence getting the entire car checked over by an expert that knows what they're doing.
If the garage don't accept this, then reject the car out of hand and demand your money back.

Oh and what is it with 'Andys' and problems with their Zeds....

hope the resprayed panels are ok..... I have heard of stranger things......
Besides BMW would not repair component parts in a module, they would just fit another new part.

Sounds to me more like lack of communication and general incompetence than anything sinister in trying to hide the real story. I'm not convinced they even know what the real story is. To take a wild guess, I think they botched the wiring loom install and are now scratching their heads on how to get it all sorted. Don't be surprised if the GM5 is not the end of it. You'll have to decide when enough is enough and claim not fit for purpose.

The problem with rejecting the car is mainly that I wasn't looking for a Z4 originally as I thought they were ugly until I saw this one (full aero kit ,Alpina spoiler, 108's ,clear rear lights and angel eye headlamps ) and now I love it and can't find anything that I would replace it with (unless I go back to plan A and get a Boxster) .
The car was at a local garage I had dealt with before and trusted ,and I got it for a good price
It is the independent BMW specialist that is giving both of us the run around and I trust the supplying garage to sort it with them,he has a good reputation to uphold.
Also with the reputation of the indy at stake I doubt if they are actually trying anything dodgy it's just the way they have gone about it and me being paranoid
As they had the dash out to sort the airbag fault it will hopefully just be a simple bad connection somewhere
I part ex'd my motorbike for the Z and have sold my MX5 so I am stuck without transport otherwise I would go and look at the car just to ease my mind
Hopefully everything will be sorted tomorrow , I will get my car back and we will have a long and happy relationship

You are absolutely right! While frustrating, you just need to be patient for a while longer, then it'll be pure joy.

Ugh, did I just quote that stupid advert campaign? :o

There are two relays inside the GM5 module that "play up".....its a common repair for an Indi.....usually a 3 day turn round for the repair to the module
