why are these different?

just noticed today that my car is different to Johns and Jamies, can anybody explain why?

this is the view looking through the rear window

mine:

Your's has revised roof mech where it does not latch down when open. Changed around face lift time.

Mine still has the mechanism although I have removed so that it doesn't catch on the roof. So mine is as per second photo but without the metal latch.

is it a easy job, would you recommend doing it?

You have to remove the rear centre console. I had mine out to remove a stuck DVD so took the opportunity to do it. Get them to check the interior roof lining. If it's marking then def worth doing.
