Why £??.9, £??.99 ?

Another thing with petrol prices that I asked a few weeks ago is why is it always .9 now and never .4 or .5 or .7 like it used to be years ago?
I agree that the .9 should be abolished.
Cant get rid of the 99p though. What would they do with all the shops?

I like asda's take on it. Price fuel at xxx.7, people see it as cheaper then save 0.2p x 18, if they put £20, and it costs asda 3.6p for the business.

Not got an Asda fuel station here so not seen this, but agree it's a nice marketing ploy,

I never get why people genuinely shop for cheaper fuel when the difference is say 5p a litre. Even filling up a big 80l tank will only save you 4 quid, and the pound that people save if putting in a 20 like most do - is probably used up driving between stations :lol:

the 99p aways makes things seem cheaper in the shops though and keeps all those 1p coins in circulation

Marketing...it looks 'cheaper'....people will see it as 104 instead of 105

That's the answer - pure and simple.
People are stupid and just round down numbers...hence anything in retail always ends in 99p, 95p, or for the big numbers £x99 not £100, £1,000, etc.

you'll find more premium shops charging whole figures such as £100.

I wouldn't worry about the rights and wrongs of the odd 0.9p if it was 95.9p per litre which, according to the latest per barrel cost, it should be. But I agree with the Pits, the decimal point is ridiculous.

don't you just round up to an even number? so £100.95 = £101, but £100.94 = £100. :?
