Whurring sound with lights?

Not a serious issue by any means this one but I am curious to find out what it is.
If I turn the side lights on (or straight to headlights) with the engine off, I can hear a whurring then clicking sound for 3 or 4 seconds. With the door open it sounds to be coming from just behind the dash in the engine compartment.
I am guessing it is to do with a motor lifting the headlights to where I have them set- do they usually drop when not on? Its odd though you don't get a corresponding whur when you turn them off.
Anyway, just curious what this is.

Do you have Xenons or Halogens?

I get the same. Only noticed it after I'd had the back covers off the headlights to replace the bulbs. Mine are halogens and just put it down to some self levelling mechanism.

As I thought then. It makes sense if it self levelling as the driveway is on a bit of a slope. Cheers

Yep, self level cycle... takes around 3 secs. If you park facing a wall in the dark, you can see what the lights are doing
