It's Jason Plato and the film crew from Fifth Gear, recording a comparison feature for next season. My 3.0 Z4 Auto, the Porsche Boxster 3.2 and Mazda RX-8.

Will post more piccies later when I've had chance to sort through them.

"wow" ? maybe but no way would i be letting my zed get thrashed by a well known petrolhead
Funny, didn't even bother me in the slightest.

Plus they've taped a camera to the door!
Absolutely no damage, marks or scratches from the cameras. The camera guys were absolute professionals, and took the utmost care with the car.

Sorry I sounded as if I was putting a downer on your news. Must of been very exciting!
Glad they took care of the car for you. Looking forward to more pics.

can you let us in on which motor came out on top ?
Nope, wouldn't let us in on that so have to wait for the show to be aired...

Absolutely epic you must be well chuffed! Nice car :D
I am still buzzing right now. Despite large amounts of standing around, it was a brilliant experience!

don't suppose VBH was there ? :)
Nope, we only get one presenter!

Let's hope they don't take the obvious Boxter S route. It might have been fairer to put an M up against that. What a buzz to have your car on TV though and brilliant if it wins!

I quietly confident with the way things wen't. JP had a manual 3.0 Z4 some years back and is a fan. The director commented that JP drove the car in a much more "spirited" way than the other cars, so he clearly felt at home and he also loved the auto box.

But it's hard to tell, and will have to wait for the final edits.

More piccies, now I've had a sort through (apologies the are from my camera phone).

The opposition first. Porsche Boxster S 3.2.

Nice :)

I trust the others would be auto boxes as well to make it fair.

Fantastic. Jason Plato comes across as a decent guy. Is he? He can certainly drive. Don't forget to post when you find out when it's going out

Both manuals. Sadly the researcher struggled to get any Porker owners to offer their car for the day. Got no response what so ever from the Porker forums. Friday afternoon he resorted to Autotrader and cold calling people. The guy who brought the porker had to run down to the Post Office for a tax disc so he could bring it (paid for by Fifth Gear).

The RX-8 owners club were a little more on the ball, and we had their club secretary come down from Yorkshire for filming.

Whoa awesome. I would so let top gear thrash my car around. At least my car would be famous!
If I sell it, I'm going to put on the ad "as driven by Jason Plato"

He actually is. Spent a lot of time laughing and joking with us and telling stories I really don't think I can broadcast.

Wow, when is it aired?

How did you get involved?

Can wait to see this, but where is the custard test :poke: :p

Aired in March/April next year. The request came through to the BMW Car Club. Another car was volunteered, but was an Alpina so didn't fit in with their requirement for the day. They then needed someone quick to replace them, and I volunteered as I'm between contracts at the moment.

The average used car price is around £5300 at the moment, so they were looking for three cars to feature which could be purchased for around that price. Looking at prices on the usual sources a Z4 is certainly an option in that price range. They weren't that bothered that mine is technically worth more, but obviously the Alpina is considerably more.

make sure you give us some warning when it is going to be on

edit
too much

could you give us some warning just before it is aired?
