I know before writing this that I will get the usual "driving too fast for the conditions" sort of replies
I may have been, but it was on a road I have driven for 20 years and know well

Anyway . After seeing the weather and flood warnings on the news I decided to stick to main roads on my way to work so took the A34 dual carriageway from Stone to Stafford at 6 this morning .
I have never known this stretch to suffer from any flooding so wasn't taking any precautions and was driving at around 60mph (the limit) when I had to dip my lights for a car coming the other way
The next thing I knew was the car getting dragged violently to the left and I had a wall of water all around me. I couldn't see a thing ,I was fighting the steering wheel trying to keep away from the verge and could feel the abs working as I must have automatically hit the brakes
As I waited for inevitable the bang the front must have cleared the water and jerked violently to the right sending me broadside up the road
I don't know if it was luck, skill ,or the electronics but after a bit of snaking I ended up facing the correct way and in one piece albeit with a racing pulse and thinking it was lucky I had my gym bag in the boot with some clean underwear

Next time I dip my lights I won't take it so literally :D

You must have been scared to death.
Thankfully you and the car are ok.
Just goes to show in wet weather you never know what could happen.

Scary, I know that road well, there was an overturned car there this morning with the A34/A51 at Stone, not sure if the road was closed. But like you say I've never know it to flood.

It doesn't take any depth of water to lose control, I don't think many people realise this and think they can drive through it at normal speeds.

Tim.

I'm in Stone too. Was trying to go North today but A34 closed at Darlaston. Went out through Meir Heath and standing water everywhere. Came back and went out in a mate's Astra!
Live near the Trent and I can see the whole plain is flooded. Stone cemetry partly submerged (grim).
Have never seen so much flooding.
Andy you were damned lucky. Hope U and the Zed OK.
Check Ur tracking if it feels out.
