Who will rip out the taxdisc at midnight tonight ....

Mine's already off, hate the things and always have - it's about time the sytem was modified for the 21st century.

The only downside I see is that as mentioned above, the snoopers won't be able to tell at a glance if your car is taxed or not, and love them or hate them they did provide a valuable service in grassing up non-tax payers :) Now we're going to be totally reliant on ANPR cameras and the cops for clocking non payers, which costs money to operate. So, over time the checks will be pulled back to minimal levels and it'll be a free for all with untaxed and uninsured cars on the roads. We don't see many cop cars around here, and any law is only as good as those who police it - i.e quite useless here. Even the greater percentage of our fixed speed cameras are not operational now.

Can I just ask everyone a question ?

If you are unfortunate enough to have a bump how can you tell if the car involved with you in the accident is taxed or more to the point insured ? And does this mean that you should be calling the police for every accident ? As I understand the law previously if a car wasn't taxed them it wasn't insured ?

Yeah I see that's an option but in an accident situation ?? What if you have no wifi ? Or don't have a phone with you then the scrote drives off - think I would call the boys in blue personally ?

Do we have any police officers on here who could shed any light ?
 
I was going to stick the original one that would have been on the car new in the window. Turns out the previous owner didn't keep it :(

Makes no difference wether it's taxed or not in an accident situation. Makes no odd's to insurance and a tax disc doesn't tell you that info. Your insurance could run out the day after you buy a years tax but the tax is still valid and vice versa. If your not blocking the road and there's no injuries BiB wouldn't attend generally anyway. (Unless suspected drink driver or similar.)
It's a PITA for police day to day though as a quick look into an out of date tax disc would sometimes indicate other things amiss, that initial tip off if you like is gone especially as a lot of cars don't routinely carry ANPR systems.

In a nutshell with regards to accidents nothing changes, do what you usually would in the past.

Christ, you're well hard. I'd have been impressed if it wasn't completely legal.
 
Those that leave it in will remind me of those red nose day things from years ago, some people left them on the car for years...

In other news I've been in my car a couple of times today and only remembered to rip the disc out after getting out and locking up because I didn't want to swerve whilst trying to do it as I had remembered whilst driving. Oh well, it will come out in the morning hopefully instead.

Nice!! Will be coming off tomorrow. Don't have an issue with as such but will look cleaner.

Only because the previous owner had put this fantastic expensive aluminum unit in the window which raised the class level of the car endlessly :lol:

I lover the clean looks on my cars now, I have bits of paper stuck on windscreens.
