Who hasn’t had a roof issue?

As the title suggests really, I am curious to know how many owners have not experienced any sort of roof issue / failure in their ownership.

I was a little disappointed when my failure occurred a little under 6 months into my ownership, and whilst I was a good distance from home. Fortunately my repair was fairly simple and easy on the wallet.

I am looking to see if there is any pattern to the failures, so if you do comment, could you also include the year of you car, how long you have owned it, and how many failures you have encountered.

Also, what service history do you have in terms of full dealer, part dealer, independent, or none.

My car is a late 2013 with 59k, with full dealer history and I have owned her for around 8 months now.

2009 car with 32k, owned 6 years without any issue (touch wood  ). Full BMW history by the supplying dealer (regular oil change / brake fluid).

How often are you all dropping the top? On my 4 month owned (3 months in quarantine), I dropped the top every day on the way home, and now do it going to work and coming home. My 2003, it died after 6 years, but it was a 2002 build so had the worst possible setup. That car, based on memory, had the top down at least once a day, usually both ways if it wasn't raining

From what i've seen after rewiring my entire roof, two things matter:
- How good the chosen tehnician was when he was mounting the hydraulic lines in the factory. (You can adjust them to give a little bit of extra space where there is usually a breakage in the lines, or you can make it as tight as possible and they will fail faster)
- How often you use it (clearly).

On my car, a 2011, the hydraulic lines survived about 9 years (150k km), which is a decent time.

2011 with 65000 miles
No problems in the 12 months I’ve owned it.
From service history/receipts, it’s only had 1 micro switch replaced a couple of years ago

2012 85K miles, owned it for a year
every now and then i get a roof fault appear on my i-drive screen when operating the roof, but the roof has always completed its cycle...... touch wood.

Nov 2014 car, mine from new, 15,300 miles, supplying dealer (Sytner) serviced.

Roof down each time it goes out, roof up when parked or back in the garage. No probs (of any description). :)

Whoops...................

Hope I don’t jinx things.....mine a 2013 LCI car with full service history and 40k...no roof issues but the salmon coloured relays changed as a precaution and roof seal regularly treated with gummi pflegge 👍

2012 MY..40,000 miles no issues save flat battery / tilt issues..ie owner related..

No problems during my 2 years of ownership. And previous owners maintenance and repair record do list any roof problems, 2011 3.0i
