I briefly looked for one a while ago but couldn't find anything that suited the Z4. If anyone here has got an aftermarket stereo I'd love to see a pic or two of it installed.

Post pics here please

There is one american friend from memorty, but IMO it wont look as good as OEM due to the dash design etc. Other cars the swap wouldnt be so noticable.

20ducks has one. At least he did on his old Z4. It was pretty cool. All flip-out LCD movie playing monster.

saw one of these in Halfords the other day, any opinions?

I upgraded to the Carver system in the '06 and never looked back. Although watching a movie whilst doing 90 on I70 was kinda different. BMW sells a facia that blends an aftermarket unit in very well. It doesn't detract from the dashboard architecture.

How's this...
My first Alpine was a phantom face HU:

Nice but no nav unit. This was before the days of TomTom/Garmin etc.

So I went with this unit. Although the screen is of very high quality, for a roadster it was
difficult to see in bright daylight and when the sun was as at certain angles.

I've always wondered what that velcro strap (In the central storage compartment) is for

I'm considering this too but there are a couple of things putting me off. Firstly the Halfords blurb says that the AV/DVD function only works when the handbrake is on etc... which I'd prefer not to be the case (although convincing Halfords to fit or modify otherwise may be difficult.)
Secondly although you can buy the facia adapter I think it does still affect the lines of the interior (like a round peg in a square hole) It looks a little odd. Much like my alloys dilemma I may be forced to stay standard on this one too. My only other option is to buy the BMW pop up dash screen and modify it to simply display the AV from my ipod. Could be expensive though.

The law of diminishing returns for this type of mod applies to the utmost. Remember this is a roadster so when the top is down along with the road noise and the size of the cabin itself relegates a great install to just better-than-average. Plus the problem of actually being able to read the screen is difficult except at night. FWIW, I had a bypass (illegal of course) so videos could be played at any time.

So I can take radio out impala and put in z4 two!!

It gets 1690 from el paso so good that makes byeing z4 even more exciting even without rims

Its an easy mod to make the screen work all the time. There will be a wire on the back of the unit that is connected to the handbrake. Just cut it and splice it in with the main unit negative wire and it will work all the time fine

Its normally a green wire, this is the case across most manufacturers. :D

That may work for some like Pioneer or Kenwood e.g., Alpine devised a much more sophisticated system to defeat.
