a bolt in the downward bit before its crossed by the other bit? If that makes sense, would look like a c with a tail however :rofl:
 
I have a private plate on the zed, and was lucky enough to come across it just before getting the zed's predecessor. For a start, there's this bloke (ok, he's not real) and me, but there must be a lot of people with the same initials because all the best plates (e.g. prefix with one or two nice numbers) from the DVLA had gone.

My plate came from eBay attached to a car. Allowing for costs of travel, fixing the car's two punctures, selling the car again, transfer fees, etc, it came to about £250 in total. If I hadn't found that plate, I would have gone for something ageless meaning nothing to me. I'd have been happy with something like deka's above, as plates with an X won't be many people's initials and can be picked up not too expensively.

I have R3 and have since seen R4 and R8 come up one eBay, the first one asking too much, the second also attached to car. I sometimes wish I'd snapped up the R8 plate but it would've been a load of hassle and probably end up costing £500. eBay comes up with roughly one car a week with a number plate containing my initials, though few are any good.

My daily driver also has a personalised plate. I wouldn't personally have spent what it cost, but the first owner put it on and it's specific to the car and makes it distinctive.
 
I got mine as a present for my 21st, dvla direct just checked online for any matching and the cheapest is 1500 from a dealer :o

glad I got it when I did :thumbsup:
 
Nope and never seen the point because whenever I see one I just think someone is trying to hide the age of their car.

Never ceases to amaze me how much some people will pay for a number plate.
 
Still working on my potential purchase of a Z4, but on a previous 633csi, I had BVARIAN. Although, I wouldn't want that on my Z4, as it's not built in Munich.

If you buy an e85 then Spartan would be quite cool :wink:

However the e89 is built in Regensburg, which is also in Bavaria :thumbsup:
 
Other than the DVLA where best to get private plates from? Looked into Irish plates recently but process seems quite long (send all your documents over etc).
 
I have two, L66 PSL on my BMW Series 1 and L70 PSL on my Z4. The first letter is my wife's name, the last three letters are my initials. 66 is the year we met, 70 is the year we got married (both old gits, but young at heart :wink:). For a very small cost they keep the car ageless particularly if you have OCD like me and are forever washing and polishing them.

Most Irish plates are easily (and usually cheaply) available through the usual UK sellers, regtransfers etc... :thumbsup:
 
Mine was a gift from my brother and I love it!

K11ST P - Kirsty Pulsakowska was a little too hard to fit.
 
My parents bought my my plate for my 21st birthday as a surprise. Was unsure (and still am sometimes) about them but it does add something to the car: R777 ALY (7+7+7=21). Believe it cost them £180 at the time.

Bought T55 MTB for the van to hide it's age (It's a VW T5 van, MTB-mountain-biking - our passion)

Also inherited R200 REV on a Civic Type R I bought: 200ps and it liked to rev! Sold it on with the car though. Had been a Honda press car/plate beforehand.

Thanks :thumbsup: Just out of interest (and to get you to 3000 posts), have you used regtransfers before?
 
It would seem that everyone and his dog now has a private plate, I've had my initials followed be a low number for quite some time and recently purchased C7 with my initials for my new runabout. :)
 
I have V6 OLS - it was a present for my 21st. I'm called Oli but it's very difficult / impossible to get an I at the end as it may be a 1.

Interestingly some people at work now call me Ols so it would appear I have been named after my car!
