Who else here REMOVES their annual reg. sticker on the plate

Be warned. This will probably go down as one of the dumbest threads.

So I got my annual registeration sticker a few days ago. You know, the little color-coded square sticker that you stick on your rear license plate every year. I finally found time to put it on my plate today, and just thought, well, I didn't wanna just stick it over last year's registeration sticker. So I tried to remove the old sticker first. What a PITA!!! I guess the stickers are specifically designed in a way that if you try to remove it, it cracks and shreds into a million pieces by itself. Those sticker remover spray didn't help much either. It took me a good 25 minutes to remove that son-of-a-B. 10 minutes into the job my neighbor walked by and asked what I was doing, and proceeded to comment "what don't you just stick it over the old sticker?"

"I could, but then it wouldn't be perfect", I replied.

I've been known to have borderline OCD. This time around I left the backing on the new sticker, and just used industrial strength clear packing tape to put the new sticker on the plate. At least next year it'll only take me 3 seconds to do the job.

So, who else does it? :D :poke:

I stack them one on top of another as a sign of pride (of duration of ownership).
Eventually, the sticker-pile will be so tall it will upset either the balance or wind resistance of the car. :driving:

I never gave it any thought. I just stick one on top of the other and since they are so thin you can not tell there is one or many underneath it.

GP..lol

We don't have that option here in NYS, it just goes on the windshield next to the Inspection sticker..

well be thankful you don't live in Texas! I hate having 2 plates and and three sets of stickers on my windshield!

I remove the old one. I used a utility knife to pull it while blowing with the hairdrier between the plate and the sticker... Just gotta do it not too fast.

I do it the same way. I can't stand the thought of stacking them. :( And I usually remove the plate and wash and wax it while its off. I know...I know, and my wife always reminds me :headbang:

I remove the old one because it sticks to the plate better. Here in Chicago, stealing someone's new sticker is a common petty crime, and they advise you not to stack them. Starting last year, the registration sticker comes with your plate number on it do discourage theft.

They steal them here in Phoenix also. A police officer told me that if you take a razor blade and slice an X pattern across the newly installed sticker it will help prevent thieves from lifting them, as it will start to come off in pieces.

Odd, NY is looking like it has smarts to simple things..it's not even a issue, inspection and reg sticks are inside the windshield, simple yet scary..

Well I am with GP20. I take mine off and wax the plate as well.

And we here in Washington have to have a plate on the front and back. Hear that gang? You know who you are.

If you really want to do it the easy way just forget the bolts and lose your plate each year and get a new one with a new sticker. I know the guy who wrote the system and it is too stupid to track that you get a new plate each year. We got you inspection sticker states one better here in this county anyway, we don't do any damn inspections of any kind. I like it like that. :D

Here, you get a state sticker for the plate and a city sticker to pay for the privilege of living in Chicago. I co-worker had her windshield broken to get her city sticker. :x She'd done the razor blade trick to that one, so they didn't get all the sticker, but that was small consolation.

Front plates? I always thought that was a spare in case my rear plate got too dirty to read anymore

I found this product to easily attach stickers to the windshield without damaging it or having it stick permanently. I never used it personally but it's something Ron Stygar recomand on his site.

Good to know I'm not alone. :D

And yeah, what front plate? :poke:

You all know I am a hypocrite anyway, I drove my wife’s Cadillac for 4 years with only one plate and even though I worked for the coppers, if I did not have the damn holes in my bumper already I would not have one now. If the State Troopers have nothing else to do but look for people without front plates, I want to talk to their Sergeants. :x :driving:
