That does look great, but it's under studio lighting and the pic has been set up to deliberately catch all the angles. Under flat light it wouldn't look anything like that.

You can compare to Tom's pic from some random field under grey skies...

:D

Surely the Z4 isn't a car that looks its best in white?! Having said that, it's not exactly dog ugly, and the rarity is awesome.

And you don't think that Tom has adjusted any of. The levels etc....

Hmm now if that had Imola leather and a carbon dash, privacy glass and CSLs and I'd be in love! Is that an updated sat Nav menu? I'm sure mine looks naff in comparison?!
Looks exactly the same as my menu (except for the Television/DSP options). You haven't got yours set for that hideous brown colour scheme have you? :?

+10000.. you can actually SEE the shadows over the flame surface caused by the lighting used , they look SO bland in person, literally the only colour on this car that murders all the detail of the design.

Oh, I'm sure he has. I think we're arguing about left boob vs right boob. Both equally awesome, but never from the same perspective.

Audis seem to suit white. Newer BMWs too. This thing is going to look mega in white as well:

Just my opinion, of course!

Having seen six speeds Z4 in the flesh (the white one in the pic) I can say it does look awesome!

totally agree, i thought he had a rear spoiler

As well as the aeros on sixspeed's car, the lack of backboxes hanging down makes a surprising difference to the side-on view. Really exaggerates the rake.

altho white has been slated... and mine looks(well looked as now it has aero skirts and //M rear with quads) crap in comparison, once i get it finished to what i have planned hopefully mine will look as mean as the white coupe above!

old pic..

once lowered, new wheels, mstache type splitter maybe, skirts stickers maybe it will look soooo much better than the above old pic :fuelfire:

I shot mine with elichrom studio strobes which are one of the higher end portable strobes at about £1000 each... But i set the lights up properly which is why the car details stand out so much, you can see where the light is coming from the left as the shadow is falling to the right and the catchlights on the wheels I also had a smaller pop flash to fill in on the right. White is also much more difficult to create the same sort of image because its really quite flat like bedaub says it really doesn't do the Z that much justice unlike the silver grey which does have a two tone effect and really shown on my old car.

Also the pic of the white car the strobes are far too close and you can see the rear and the front of the car the white has blown out where there is no detail, if they had been further away it would have made a more natural look.

These pictures its more about photography technique rather than how the paintwork actually looks in real life. On a bland day like the shot of my car the silver grey looks flat too. I actually like the white but it doesn't show the car to its best.

Thanks Tom, at least it goes a way to explain why I cannot get a photo to even come close to yours, not withstanding the fact I am a complete amateur. Always find it interesting to understand the lighting that goes into some of the great photos I see, thank you for sharing your knowledge and technique

I know where you're coming from Tom (being a photographer you can more readily see the shortcomings of your colleagues), but I quite like the over exposed front and rear with deeper shadows on the flanks in the image of sixspeed's car. It seems to mirror the harsh and fairly directional lighting typically found in a factory, which in itself contrasts with the fluidity of the car. There's almost a suggestion that the car is a furious captured beast exhibited in a cage that is the industrial unit....
Maybe I need to get out more :D

I was also going to suggest whilst it is over exposed, maybe it was intentional? I personally think it looks great.
