White Staining on inside of roof

Hi

I am new to Z4 ownership and picked up my 08 Z4 roadster today :D. Unfortunately its poring with rain so not had the full enjoyment yet. Although there do not appear to be any obvious leaks, I notice on the inside of the roof there are a couple of white patches of what look like water stains and also across the centre of the hood either side the fold line. Should I be overly concerned? and how best to remove these? I assume this is a sign of a leaking roof? if so how is this best remedied?

Many thanks in anticipation

hello and welcome

many roadster owners get carried away with their soft tops, i dread to think what the staining is

Use soap and water to clean the inside of the roof or get some hood cleaner, autoglym do some.

Once cleaned inside and out use soft top sealant to make the exterior waterproof.

Best you can do.

Maybe someone just did a poor job of prepping it for sale? The E85 has a multi layer roof. If you're getting water through the middle impermeable layer you have a problem. Give it a good clean up and see if you get any damp spots when it rains.

the roof has been put down when it was not dry.dont laugh i cleaned the white stain with baby wipes never come back .its not the hood leaking

I'm not even going to ask what you're doing with a packet of babywipes in a Z4.

A very attractive girl I used to work with always used to say to her girlfriends "never accept a lift from a man who keeps a box of tissues in his car".

Maybe I just had a cold eh? Thought about that did you??

When I opened this thread I expected a comment along the lines of Taz's!! Good lad

Did the OP resolve his issues?

I had the same on my Z4 when I bought it. I found that if you use a hoover with brush attachment it clears it up like new.

Good call. Will give that a go on the weekend.
