White quadlock connector in the back of the head unit

What is it for? It's part of the main headunit loom and it's plugged into the lefthand side when looking at the back of the headunit and seems to make no difference to any of the functions wether it's plugged in or not.

I have the standard business system with no CD Changer

I had my radio out yesterday fitting the aux-in cable which fitted next the same connector your talking about , i have a changer fitted and i think that connector is for that.
Maybe your Zed did have a changer at one time but since removed.

nah... the aux should be on the right side, not the left.

as far as I can tell, this left socket is for the cd changer, and maybe some of the bluetooth stuff.
most of the older cars were wired up for the cd changer regardless of if you had it fitted or not.

I'm pretty sure there were just 3 wires.

No Bluetooth option on my car as far as I can tell.

But you will having the wiring for it as all UK cars came prewired, just need to source a change if you ever wanted one.

yep.. three wires = cd changer harness

lift the back carpet wall in the boot (just under the centerconsole release cord) and you should find two spare plugs neatly tucked into the cd changer hole

If you have DSP (as in, the amp next to the battery), then you don't have that white connector going into the headunit.
Instead, you have a cable that runs direct from the back of the changer into the amp.

this is the back of a non-dsp changer:

as you can see, two clip connectors and a empty circular hole.
the top clip connector (two pins) appears to be power and bus connector

the bottom clip connector (loads of pins) is the standard audio out.
the plug for this socket routes around to the front of the car, and plugs into the bottom left of the stereo (the white connector shown in the above pic)


THIS is the back of a dsp changer.


as you can see, the circular hole is now connected to a coax cable, whilst the multi-pin bottom clip connector is not used (and there isn't even a plug on the car harness for it!)

This coax cable routes round to the amp directly, and thus requires no plug in the back of the stereo

Hmmmmm. at the risk of sounding stupid im even more confused! :lol:

I have; 1 amp in boot, cd changer, many speakers & a white clip which goes somewhere!

I thought this was the Middle loudspeaker option, but who knows?! :wink:

pick up the back wall carpet in your boot and see if you have the round cable from the cd changer.. or if you have two rectangle connectors.

as far as I knew, if you're post-facelift, you have analog DSP. If it's pre-facelift, you have digital dsp.
the digital system uses the round coax.

god this is confusing... If I can, i'll take a shot of mine later today to show you what I mean...

Its a Z4MC if that makes a difference.

think the amp is behind one of the wall carpets in the coupe, rather than with the battery.

DSP = Digital Signal Processing (I believe)
