White Cars

Maybe all these white 1 series drivers have proper cars with proper engines at home and they forget that they aren't in it. That makes sense, shame most are driven by people who seem to have slept with a driving examiner and have no real idea of how a car works except it's got a nice badge on it.

Apologies to any prospective 1 series in white owner. To be fair any BMW in white seem to have a speed issue. Maybe faulty speedos?

Cheeky begger! All our cars are white (well, apart from my current shitbox) and Deb has a white 1'er and loves it. She's just ordered another...in white! And she can drive, thank-you very much!

Lol :poke: I'm sure she can, but you know what it's like, all BM drivers and all put into the same bucket ie don't indicate, don't let people out, Audi drivers they seem to be up your arse too even if there is a wall in front they still want you to drive faster or get out their way. Or cyclists, most obey the rules of the road but those who don't give others a bad rep. White BM owners fall into that bracket.

To be fair anything with a bit go about it seems fair game for anything that takes the same time again to reach 60 mph. Maybe it's just white, you never have a white van man leaving the 'safe' distance behind you either.

I personally find drivers of blue (especially deep sea blue) 35is Z4's to be the worst at giving BMW drivers a bad rep!

...but maybe I'm just jealous!

I think it maybe the latter :P I seem to be the slowest driver on the roads here at the moment.

The wife and I are looking to buy a M-B GLK250. We want it in white. Not because it's a free color. For us it's about where we live in the USA. Walla Walla Wa. As it's rather dry and there are lots of wheat fields that are burned after the harvest. It can be a bugger to keep a dark color clean. It gets hot in the summer as well (42c is the hottest I've seen) We also think the GLK looks good in white.

But I make a point of getting past them, not just nipping at the heels.

I thought it was because it became fashionable to buy higher spec cars in white around 2008 onwards, ie when the recession started in the UK. Hence recession white. I hate white cars now, waaaay too many about!

I can see why. I watched Mythbusters and they had two cars in black and white and the white one was considerably cooler than the black car. Here in the UK we don't need to worry about hot and dry weather. It' likes to rain here and hot is about 20 degrees Celsius.

Also a GLK, that's a beast!

Recession white because its become popular again during the recession.

Mike Brewer referred to white cars as only owned by the police in 2002. He also quoted they were known as the equivalent of "shelf warmers" because they took so long to sell or poorpers cars because they were base spec.

I think it is the nick name given on this forum due to white being a free colour option with BMW.

I don't subscribe to all this "x colour is fasionable for cars" bollox...if buying a new car, I spec the colour I want (and if its free, even better). If buying used...I get whatever I can get!

It has however become 'fashionable' for white cars at the moment. With bmw it may have something to do with M cars being shown in that colour.

There is an element of this for a lot if people. I was gutted when no white option was offered for the 8th gen civic Type R. But certain cars can still be seen driving about and the colour was a good look at the time.m

There is a guy on the BMW forum in Edinburgh with a 2002 white E46. That's rare for a E46 of ANY age!

I was at my local stealer today and counted umpteen white beemers parked up. 2 or 3 years ago I would have liked a car in white. But now, every bugger has one!!

Much the same as silver, grey and black.

Ok so I manage to read most of the post in this thread, without falling asleep, do I get a prize? :P

White , black, various greys and a shitty version of blue are the 'In" colours according to those in the know. The marketing gurus who know everything, that's why my car is green,,

White used to be the basic fleet colour at no cost and it still seems that way...cheapest choice. Unless you're going for a fancy white, like Arctic or Glacier or whatever they want to call the shade they are trying to flog...

(my E89 was white and it looked great ! )
