iv done a search and cant really find the same problem. im getting a whistling noise, thats coming from the front i believe, that only occurs when im driving and at around 1700-2300 rpm and under slight acceleration. my car is a 2005 2.5i with around 67k and is due its inspection 2 service soon.
im not sure if it sounds like a clutch release bearing? or if its symptoms of a buggered water pump?

any help greatly appreciated :)

There are loads of threads on here about what is known as a "ghost whistle". My 2003 3.0 whistles at fairly low revs and it seems that it is normal. There can be a whistle caused by a leak in one of the hoses (there will be an expert along in a minute to tell you which one!). I think if you just search for ghost whistle you will find all the info you need.

Have a check of the Y shaped ribbed hose at the engine end of your air intake.

They have a habit of perishing and causing a high pitched whistle under acceleration.

Probably the underside of the pipe

Let us know how you get on!

just had a look and you guys were right! i found a split in the small corrugated pipe that splits off from the main inlet pipe, its only about a 10mm gap but i guess thats all thats needed.
