whistle noise. .new diff needed !

Hi Adele,

Glad to hear all is well with your car now :D

Mine is currently with the dealer - been there two days in fact - to have a rear light replaced (full of water) and diagnosis for a lifter noise in the engine. Like you, I'll be buying an extended warranty when mine runs out!

Annoying isn't it. Pay more for a premium brand, and pay again to keep it going. I never even heard of extended warranty until I bought BMW. Owned many Ford, Fiat, Renault Toyota etc in the past, kept them years, never ever had the need for warranty when new or ageing. I'd not even consider a BMW without it. Sad.

Funnily enough Maniac, that's exactly what I was thinking as I wrote it but I was trying desperately not to go on a BMW bash. But yes, it's almost amusing (in a perverse way) that I consider an extended warranty a must when I've neither bought one before nor even considered it with my cheap 'n' cheerful Jap cars.

A lot depends on the next 12 months, after which my standard warranty runs out. If I now have 12 months of fault-free driving then I may be a bit more willing to take a gamble.

I'm not. The slightest issue on these cars costs a fortune. With my luck, I'd not take warranty and have an issue with the super complex roof, engine, DCT... you name it.

Seriously considering a back to basics car...

My 2010 Z 4 had its diff replace 6 months ago . I was told it was a rare thing and they had never really heard of it happening on a Z4. And yesterday I took my car in for a check up after hearing the same sounds coming from the diff. I was shocked to hear that I need a new diff. How is this possible its only 6 months old and now out of warranty. Luckily BMW are taking care of all costs but will they be giving me another one in 6 months ? WTF
