Whisky isle tour, Sept 2011

Here's a taster - my wife says "you've been away all weekend, so don't think you're sitting at that computer all night."

Islay dawn.

That's me back home after safely delivering Kirsty. Have also managed to pack the tent away properly after drying it - think I've finally managed how to do it without bursting in to tears!

Despite the wet start to the weekend, it was great trip - really enjoyed visiting Islay and meeting up with forum members, old and new! Must say I was a bit disappointed heading home because I've been looking forward to the meet for so long!

Highlights:

The Old Military Road on the way home (what a road!)
Hooning down the road between Port Charlotte and Bridgend with Nosa yesterday morning
The whisky and impromptu photoshoot at Ardbeg distillery!
The BBQ last night (finally - we had one!)
Malc's slightly disturbing dancing....

Some quick figures:

Total journey: 400.5miles
OBC MPG: 34.8 (would have been more if I hadn't had as heavy a right foot yesterday and today!)
Number of bottles of whisky bought: 1
Number of whiskies downed: too many!
Number of chairs broken: 1
Number of impromptu diagnoses made: 1 (sorry Malc :poke: )
Number of times I've had to say sorry after dumping Kirsty in the field full of sheep/goats: still counting...

Will look through some photos later and post the good ones. I really like the one above Malc - and not just because it's my car!

Home 3.45pm - in time for afternoon coffee, a quick cut of the grass before going on holiday on Tuesday, just in time for friends popping round briefly - not quite a Bradders style packed schedule but I'm done in now the adrenalin has worn off - excellent weekend, great input from everyone and double brownie points for those coming from very far a field - great to meet some new forum members and those not seen for a while.

Military road made for a fab final blast of the day after the lochhside rollercoaster and generally a great drive down from Kennacraig, we had a fab traffic free section before Lochgilphead and also before and after the Rest and Be Thankful.

Weather was good from Sat morning on as borne out by the amount of roof down action. Time flew in - always a sign of a good time. The Ardbeg tour was fascinating and the photo shoot request unexpected - I agreed to e-mail the lady at Ardbeg with some shots so feel free to e-mail me any you think are worthwhile - via pm if you like.

Sat night BBQ and beer was a total success I thought - must do again.

Will try and get some photos uploaded tomorrow. Did anyone else see the llamas/alpacas on Islay ? My tyre pressure warning light stayed off after a reset - hope your DTC is OK RichardG. Anyone know how to free bonded on dust caps - hairdryer and WD40 ?

Tomorrow I must phone that "no win no fee - whiplash specialist" personal injury lawyer after the high speed ferry queue nudge I got from "Bumper in a Blue Zed"

Now did somone say 2012 EuroZed trip .. . . .?

Good to meet you all, I enjoyed the banter, the distilleries, the dry days and the bbq was particularly fun. Maybe see you on a day trip sometime when I'm in my own car, I am a car enthusiast in case that was in doubt but for the weekend I was mostly a whisky enthusiast!

I got lots of pics because I wasn't driving...

If these guys were your friends - they would organise a trip around your schedule.

In 2010 every date fell during my off rota .. 2011 has been a mad year .... the good news is that a recent job move keeps me in the UK and a Zed Owner for a few years yet !

PS Malc what Camera/Lens do you use for your Photos they look very crisp.

I have a Nikon D90 with a Nikkor 18-70mm DX lens.
The Nikon gives you a choice of contrast options standard, neutral, vivid & monochrome - I usually have it on vivid.
I also use a polariser in bright sunlight or a warm up filter in overcast conditions.

Camera shake is the usual cause of un-sharp pictures and image stabilisation helps - but I don't have that luxury. :(
