whirring noise?????

hi,only just purchased my first z4 on tuesday,and ive got a couple of questions to kick off my contribution to this fab forum.
its a 2.5 smg 2004 model,black and red leather with 66,000 miles,and so far has put a BIG smile on my face.this is quite a compliment as ive previously owned 2 porshe boxsters
(both 2.5 models) and this z4 seems like its agot a lot more oomph and looks better too!
1. when i disarm/unlock the car,theres a whirring noise that lasts for around 4 seconds. what could this be????
2.when i put the car into N for neutral when i pull out the key,theres a beeping sound like a warning. what is this? strange.

congrats on the purchase...

1. I cant remember if mine does that or not :oops:
2. probably a warning to put it in park rather than D - truthfully this is a guess as I dont have auto or the SMG...
 
the 'whirring' noise, do you hear it when inside the cabin, or outside the car? how loud is it?
mine has what sounds like the CD player 'seeking' once I get into the car in the morning before switching on the ignition, it's a bit weird... haven't tried taking the disc out to see what happens.
 
its outside the cabin,as soon as i unlock the car with the fob.sounds like a fuel pump or electric mirrors trying to unfold.weird
 
1. is most likely the fuel pump.

2. is likely a warning that it should be in P when switching off, i used to have an auto 5 series which i always left in park when parked up.
 
it is the fuel pump. the car is trying to be efficient.

and there is a warning sound if you turn off the car and leave it in neutral. leave it in drive, then turn off the car.
