Whirring noise from rear - diff?

Hi all,

My 2007 e86 3.0si has a whirring/rubbing noise from rear near side, very noticeable especially around 20-40 mph. Not discs/pads or tyres as all just been replaced, so wondering if it's a diff or wheel bearing problem. Any ideas before I head off to BMW? Cheers, Michael

I am having the same problem. When i cruise at the mentioned speeds sometimes the rpm needle goes down completly and a weird noise comes from the back of the car. I have a smg, if i accelerate during the noise it kicks down a gear and if i back off the throtle it gets back to bouncing the rpm needle. Any ideeas ?

When I bought my Zed I noticed a whirring odd noise from rear.

I too was worried about rear diff etc...

It was immediately diagnosed by a independent BMW garage

It was fixed under warranty and turned out to be a wheel bearing - nothing like noises heard on other cars wheel bearings though so was surprised.

Hope you find it's the same thing and not anything more difficult and expensive to sort!

:driving:
