Good afternoon,

I am new to the world of Z4's and absolutely loving my car so far, it is a 2004 2.2 Se in Sterling Grey. Obviously expect one or two niggles with a car 13 years old, the only one left is a droning/whining from the rear end at low speeds. It disappears over 50mph. Any ideas please.

Kind regards

Phil

Hi Phil,

Had a similar issues last week and first replaced the rear bearing, it didn't fix it. Turned out to be a misshaped/uneven worn tyre.

Worst case its the differential but very doubtful.
Tyres or bearing. Its always very difficult to identify the side. Jack the car up and rotate the wheels listening / feeling for roughness or noise as you rotate. You might be able to pick out what side it is (or what it is!)

Good morning, thanks for info, it has economy tyres on at moment, back ones are getting low, so I will try those first..

Welcome. :) Have you checked you haven't locked the wife in your boot.

As above, similar noise on my Mazda. Wasted good money changing a wheel bearing, turned out it was a worn tyre.

I also experienced a droning or whining noise from the passenger side, but discovered that it disappeared when I left my wife at home.
