Whine when Coasting

Chaps,

Having had my new M for a few days now, i'm starting to notice a few things, mainly a slight whine coming from the transmission when coasting. Also i have noticed that the throttle response isn't particularly smooth (even down right jittery) when on initial pressure/ take off.

My worry is there is a problem with the transmission, so am i being picky or is there a real issue? Does yours whine?

Cheers all

Chap

We all go through this. I ended up with my car with the dealers for 2 days. I didn't believe them when they said all was normal so I went to view 3 separate forum members cars to satisfy myself that all was OK.

If you are near Preston you can come out in mine.

Gearbox is cluncky, whiny, notchy but after a couple of thousand miles you'll grow to love it. I drove mine with an injured arm for 2 weeks before it was diagnosed as fractured and was plastered!!

The throttle response takes some getting used to as well but getting it right is just as rewarding.

I had exactly the same concern too! All is normal, it almost sounds like there is some mechanical wear going on but don't worry 'tis standard. No problem :)

I agree with the others above. What you describe sounds normal. As for the throttle response, the M adapts the throttle sensitivity/response according to how you drive your car. If you do a lot of city driving in traffic it will sort of mess up the response over time as i've noticed on mine. You can reset the throttle and remove any adaptation which will help a lot. Here's how to do it:

Turn ignition off
Turn key to "on" position
Wait 10 seconds
Turn ignition off
Wait another 10 seconds and then start the car

Hope this helps.

Whine or wine when coasting - regularly take loads of wine when coasting...... After a while I can hear absolutely nothing

had same concerns here.... still not completely used to the box, even with the CDV removed... wondering if i need to adjust the seating position....

As far as throttle response goes I just stick it in sport as soon as I escape the city - job done. Today was fantastic, hope everyone got out there with the top down :driving:
