Which Z4?

I’ve been thinking about a Z4 for a while, and up until now hadn’t considered a 3.0 because I feared the insurance would be much more than the 2.0. I ran some quotes last night and turns out it’s only £5 more!

I’ve seen two cars that I like, what would you plump for and why? Both are facelifts (56 plate) and have the same interior/exterior colour combo (which I like)

1 – 3.0si Sport, 77k miles, xenons, circa £9k

2 – 2.0i Sport, 55k miles, Logic 7, circa £8k

I would use the car at weekends only, so fuel economy isn’t an issue. Obviously the 3.0si looks the more attractive choice, but should I be worried about the higher mileage?

3.0, I think you would always be a bit disappointed with the power difference. Extras can be added, that much power difference can't.

+2

Seriously though, I would opt for 3.0Si and I wouldn't be put off by the mileage. I would be looking to see how well the zed has been looked after during its life, obviously a full service history etc. There are quite a few members with high mileage zeds and no real issues.

Going for the 3.0ltr puts the coupe in the equation. So you can have both performance and looks

3.0.

If it's only used at the weekends then you are unlikely to add that many more miles to it so slightly higher mileage doesn't make a difference. These cars are perfectly happy with higher mileage anyway.

+1 - mileage vs two less cylinders? Know which one I'd go for. Just check for the Insp2 service on the 3.0, see when it's due.

All of this

Thanks for all the replies, it's what I expected... so I have booked a viewing for the 3.0si! I am seeing it on Sunday, so shall report back.

There's something special about a BMW inline 6. The N52 is the acme of normally aspirated engines of this class. There's nothing else like it. It also justifies the long bonnet. Everybody and their cousin has 4 pots. Snore!

3.0si - if the condition and history check out ok. Always buy on condition and history. These cars are generally bullet proof, and provided its not intergalactic mileage, I wouldn't let it be a key consideration.

The most exclusive Z is a roadster, and has a 3.4l engine

Ar*e, the 3.0si I wanted has sold! Oh well, the search continues. Wanted advert has been placed in the buy/sell section here so my fingers are crossed (midnight blue/cream leather owners, come forward!).

Oh, and rag top all the way!!!
