Which Z4 to buy

Having owned Z4m coupe and 2.2 roadster. I am still on the hunt for a Sunday car. I keep coming back to z4s but am unsure which to get. I love the roof down feeling. But also love the rigidity of the coupe. Go e89 you say.good call but do I get base model and remap for the power or get bigger engine version.
For a toy I would like really to spend around £10000. Low mileage full history, fewer owners the better. Somebody else’s pride and joy from this site preferable.if your already bored then apologise as I am getting bored looking.
I wish I had pulled the trigger on number 5s Alpina now. Which is also my final problem I don’t want to lose to much money on a car I buy. An appreciating car like that would have fit the bill. Thx in advance guys. Money waiting.

I’d buy a nice 3.0 Si Convertible when prices steady a bit.

At £10k you aren’t within reach of a Z4M or a Z4 35i E89 both of which would be fairly safe to put cash into if you bought the right car. So instead I’d buy a nice 3.0 Si manual and enjoy it

There are very few 3.0Si convertibles around at the moment and they seem to be in high demand. 3.0Si coupes on the other hand seem to readily available and £10k will still buy a reasonably low mileage SE in good condition or a slightly higher mileage Sport. It’s hard to see you losing money on either option if you keep it well looked after.

10k id opt for a 3.0 e89, tight budget but they do pop up occasionally privately, I do enjoy the roof up coupe feel the e89 provides with the added bonus of it also coming down in summer.
I loved my old 3.0si but couldn't ever imagine going back to it after the e89 experience, indeed not quite the sport car feel if thats your bag but an extremely accomplished summer cruiser. I wouldn't rule out 4 pot turbo but I've yet to try one to know if I could live without the 6 cyl experience

Yup swaying towards e89. Seems best of both worlds.

The issue you have is your statement saying you don’t want to loose much money. A 2.0 E89 will continue to depreciate. The E89 is a great car but other than the 35i I can’t see them going up in value. You need to decide what is more important to you I guess. If depreciation is a big factor then that will limit your choices.

Maybe look out for a Boxster 987.1 2.7 or a 986 they should be a safe bet.

I don't think you should worry about the depreciation - just buy the best car you can afford and will enjoy the most. Any car can spring a large repair bill on you, even a well maintained one, so whilst you might buy a vehicle that has a stable or slightly rising resale value you could be unlucky and spend the money on unscheduled maintenance instead. None of the cars you mention will have the eye watering depreciation of new or nearly new vehicles.

I think most options have already been covered.

Although as hopz121 says most E89s seem to still be dropping, albeit slowly.

If not losing money is important I'd look for a 3.0Si at your budget. Roadsters are slightly cheaper, but much rarer, than Coupes. Although 30i E89s are also pretty few and far between which might help with their values.

But if Number5s Alpina was an option an Alpina or M Roadster may even appreciate a bit, although you'll certainly have higher running costs with an M model - I don't know about Alpinas.

Whatever you decide to go for good luck finding the right one.

And don't forget to post some photos!

Decent car for the money - great as a Sunday driver https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2011-BMW-Z4-2-5-23i-Highline-Edition-sDrive-2dr-Convertible-Petrol-Manual/174664683079?hash=item28aad38e47:g:rlIAAOSwkiZgQKKH
