Which Z4 should I be looking for?

Hello!

I'm looking to buy a Z4 and have a £10k budget. I intend to wrap it in Matt Black as well (because it looks awesome)! Because I want to wrap it it means I can pick any colour Z4 which opens up a lot more choices I think.

I'm 26 and have only been driving about 8 months, so insurance will be very expensive (£2k comp ). I mainly drive recreationally, but sometimes I'll do a long trip maybe once or twice a year.

One of my friends is a good mechanic and owns his own BMW, so he'll help me make sure I don't buy one with any serious faults. But I've been browsing auto trader and am not really sure what year/model I should be aiming for. I'm honestly a total newb, I know the 3.0 has lower MPG than the 2.5. Should I consider the 2.0?

Also, is there anywhere else I should be looking except auto trader? I know people link to ebay listings here a lot but from my point of view the ebay ones always seem more expensive than auto trader.

Thanks for any advice!

Tom

Hey Tom,

I guess engine size depends mostly on how much you're prepared to pay on insurance/maintenance/running costs, but all are great cars. Another place you could hunt around is pistonheads.com

Thanks for replying! I have a couple of noob questions:

- Why is there no diesel versions of z4 that I can see?
- On the roadster is the canvas roof automatic or do you have to do it manually?
- How much roughly would it cost to install/buy a hard top for a roadster?

If you can afford the insurance get yourself a 6 cyl model, it's what these cars deserve.

In answer to your questions.

It's a sports car, that's why there is no diesel option.
All UK roofs are electric
Hardtop anywhere from £600 up depending on time of year, colour, location etc..

diesel z4. you're mad

welcome to the site. plans for the car sound good.

the 3.0 is suprisingly cheap on insurance compared to similar cars.

This one is really pushing the budget:

What do people think? Is it worth taking a look at? Or is it too expensive?
