So having returned my previous 23i and in the short space of a month owning it I have definitely got the bug back. I'm now considering doubling my budget which would give me around £30k for my next purchase. I've also gone from 23i to thinking 35is.

I keep getting distracted by 28i's and for my budget I could get a high spec 16 plate which is quite appealing but I don't fancy the depreciation so then keep steering back towards the 35i and then onwards to the 35is. Vicious cycle.

I've seen a very nice 14 plate 35is with 22k on the clock for £26k with change from Partridge BMW including service pack and MOT protect which appeals, especially with 1 year manufacturers warranty left.. peace of mind for a whole year plus no service costs for another 3 has real appeal.

Through my heavy lurking I notice it looks/sounds a lot like Kermit1970's old Z?? Same year, colour, model etc and seems coincidental that for sale with BMW a month after I read he got rid of??

So really my question is what would you do with £25-30k for a Z4? I'm running in circles at mo. Happy to wait for right car but recognise now is a good time to be a buyer.

Any advice appreciated
 
My humble opinion. Always buy the two year old car, that someone else has run in, sorted the little niggles and taken the depreciation hit on. :thumbsup:
 
I recently went from 2.8i to 3.5is - my 22 month old 6,000 miles, 2.8i M sport with lots of toys was sold by the garage for just £25.5K - it was a lovely car - but didn't have the sound - the DCT on the 3.5is is great - ride is really good 2.8i was good (much better than my 61 plate 2.3i) but the adaptive suspension on the 3.5is is just great - good in comfort on long trips and firm in sports for a hoon. I would suggest that you drive both and then make the call. Either car is good. Fuel wise not a great difference about 26 - 30 mpg on the 2.8i and 22 - 28 mpg on the 3.5is :driving:
 
Thanks for replies guys. I tend to agree that the 2 year old option is best.. it's the other half that wants the 'new' car :roll:

There are some really nice 28i's about and also lots of choice but I have a real thing for the 6banger. I'm concerned I will forever regret it if go for the 4. Limited choice on the 35is means compromising somewhere, i.e. I dont really want red but it is a stunning colour and could embrace it.

Hard to know what market is going to do too. Will the rarity of the 6er keep prices up especially being the 35is or will people shy away from the running costs as everyone makes the move towards more efficient cars? It's not a major concern of mine, but in order to justify doubling my budget :oops: I want to consider residiual value in a couple of years... so I can then purchase an f-type :? (not alone here I'm sure)
 
I don't think the market will do anything other than gradual depreciation while stock is still selling from the forecourts. When Bimmer bring out the Z5 or Z4 gen 3 muted for 2017 but I suspect it'll be later now, at that point the good egg z4s will start to appreciate over time, and especially the 6 pots as more hybrids and smaller efficient units cut across the range :fuelfire:

Except mine that is, will be putting 30k miles a year on it until it breaks :thumbsup:

Hi there,

The car you show is not Kermitts old car. Have you seen my car in the for sale section? 35is in black with red leather with a very high spec, 18 months warranty left, 5k miles, no need to pay extra from a dealer, this will be up at around £33k from them, I'm asking £28,750, no brainier imho. Have a look, it may not be for you but it doesn't hurt to look.
 
I think that you'll regret not getting a 35i/s now having considered that option. A 35i can be remapped for extra performance if you want it and that will broaden your choices.
If your worried about residuals buy an older car for £18k and put the rest of your money away for your F type. :)

However, i'd go one further -I'd be thinking about something cheap and cheerful in the interim for before the z5 lands as i reckon it's going to be an absolute corker. I've already stocked up on some empty piggybanks!
 
Z5 may end up being seriously pricey though. Especially since you will have to have the 6cyl.

OP: Whatever you do, make sure you get a 6 cylinder one!
I've just spent the last 3 hours driving home in the usual terrible Friday evening traffic and I still smile everytime I launch the thing from a junction or lights. You get some nice wheel spin in first, then a huge bang out the exhaust as the DCT shifts up and some more squirming in second and another crack out of the exhaust into 3rd, then you can really wind the car out and enjoy the howling 6cyl noise until you reach the next patch of congestion :rofl:
 
So given some thought, for me it has to be a 6er. Most reviews of the 28i are really positive except they all note the lack of sound and smoothness of the 6 cylinder variants, and past experience has me craving another.

John89, appreciate the input however unfortunately I have ruled black out for now. Lovely car though.

I'd love to hang it out for a z5 but will be above my price range right now, I can't double my budget again :P

One thing I don't like about the 35is is that the rear end has been spoilt IMO by the body coloured lower section. I love the contrasting grey on all other m models. Not a deal breaker by any means, just a shame they did that
