Hi, i am close to getting back into a Z4... however i am having some difficulty trying to decide which one to go for...

Both cars are the same price... but both cars also have their advantages and disadvantages... please read all of the post before selecting a car on the the poll  (please do not choose the M, just because it is an M

2008 Z4 Coupe Sport
- 8600 miles
- black with cream interior

2007 Z4 M Coupe
- 25000 miles
- black with cream interior

My insurance is the same on both cars... we all know the M is a better car so there is no point in me highlighting it's advantages over the standard Z4 Coupe BUT:

(in order of signifigance)

1 - the 2008 Z4 Coupe is a year newer (matters more in Ireland i think than the UK)
2 - the 2008 Z4 Coupe has a much better fuel consumption
3 - the 2008 Z4 Coupe has less mileage
4 - the 2008 Z4 Coupe is slightly cheaper to service
5 - road tax is €600 cheaper a year on the 2008 Z4 Coupe

Thanks in advance for your help... much appreciated...

M - you will regret it otherwise... The M was not available when i purchased my 3.0 but i would take an M in a heartbeat if it had of been available as let be honest its superior in many ways and not just the engine... I doubt the M uses that much more fuel if you keep your foot off when you are looking for economy run, im sure there will be a thread somewhere on the forum to verify.

What I did notice when i test drove an M Roadster the engine sounds rough 2-5k compared to a 3.0 no where near as smooth sounding.... that is the only downside i see :) mileage on those 2 not really anything in it 1 the 25k one might have just done motorway miles where as the 9k one may be all town and thrashed i guess you don't know perhaps look at seat wear on the bolster upright where they all wear that would give good indication of which car has been 'used' the most.

Id go with the M ;-) Especially if insurance is the same... one of the reasons I ruled out the M3 years back.

Really depends on your drive.

I bought an Auto Coupe because it is my daily drive, I wanted the fun without pumping the clutch driving in and out of London every day.

Unfortunately the M does not come as an auto. If it did it would have been M all the way. Now someone is going to tell me I could have got a M Auto :headbang:

You may want to factor in service and parts costs between the two, BMW already charge for the air in the tyres and when you put an M infront of the model it cost even more.

The //M taxation!

I had a similar decision recently & went for the 3.0 instead, not regretted it at all.

Personally the extra costs that come with the M would put me off, especially with the fuel situation at the moment. Money no object and I'd get the M though. Depends on your disposable income really.

Thanks for all the replies guys... i think there is a huge difference in the MPG between the 2

My daily drive is 7 miles to work each way in light traffic... the pumping of the cluth doesn't bother me...

If i buy the M will i say to myself in a few weeks, should of went with the standard coupe OR if i buy the standard coupe will i say to myself in a few weeks, i wish i had the M... :? :? :?

Ha... this is so frustrating... it's not a matter of affording the M, it's a matter of making a sensible decision in a climate with rising fuel costs... but then again you only live once... help :headbang:

Based on your mileage your fuel costs would be limited, I do 18000 a year :D and I love it... cars are made for driving after all :driving: and frankly live life and enjoy, you can't drive them when you are dead.

Here are my thoughts...
Auto - you want manual
Mileage - low
Money - you don't seem that concerned

If you want a fantastic car buy the Coupe Sport... If you want a complete monster  buy the M!

I had an Si, now I have an M. I have never thought I wish I had the Si although I do miss the auto box which in the Si is a delight. The manual in the M is

To get the performance of the M, I'd need another car. To get the economy of the Si, I just have to drive a bit less or slower. The M wins outright.

True... this is what i am thinking... it's a hard one, every 2 minutes i change my mind...

Its easy to say money isn't a problem but the cost of fuel and insurance are heading skywards.

And in all honesty, on a public road, ask yourself what does the M do that the 3.0 doesn't?

If the M was a 2008, i would choose the M... i know in the UK, people are not as particular about this... because of their fancy plates :poke: but it is something that i find myself leaning towards the Coupe Sport

M without reading the rest if you can afford to run the M its the best !

None biased opinion

But the M is not easy to drive i had a 2.5 before much easier gear change.

Hmmm. Picture yourself in the non m at a stoplight and a m draws up next to you. And vice versa...

Had the same issue when z3's were still in. Got a 3.0 - never stopped regretting not getting the m.

Fixed it now though...

Tbh:- you need a Roadster!!!
