Which trolley jack, mines to high !!

As the E85/6 came with no spare wheel or option, no there is no jack supplied with them. You need a side jack with a top mount which fits into the rubber block under the car. A used one from an E39/E46 or Mini is perfect: you can stil buy them from BMW. Checkout ebay: there are loads of suitable side jacks for these BMW's on ebay.UK for around £20-25 depending on condition. Don't use the Opel side jack, as if it's anything like mine, the top mount is unsuitable and could cause serious damage to you or the car!

On the trolley jack query, I used my normal 2T Halfords until now with a piece of bull-nose window-board under the front wheels and pushed (not drove - can't run the car for that length of time!!!!) the car onto it. I'm a little past that now and I've decided to get a low-slung trolley jack to complement the Halfords one (there are times when 2 are useful anyway). Oddly, independent of this thread I have found the SGS-Engineering unit, and with their axle stands for £50 all-in, an absolute bargain! So now, 2 trolley jacks and 4 axle stands plus a set of (totally useless these days) metal ramps.

Torque wrench - I have a Norbar wrench I have had for at least 20years and use regularly. Didn't cost much way back when, and there are some decent-value wrenches to be had. Whether they would last 20years, though :P

Aldi had a torque wrench in the other week
£10 I think

I got one and it's good quality too

There are four jacking points, two each side between the front and rear wheels. Dead obvious if you take a look. They have a rubber insert in, and are designed to take an adapter that goes between the jack and the jack point. Some discussion in another thread as to their value. I bought one as I didn't want to risk the car slipping

Edit - this is correct for non M cars. M cars have a different arrangement
What different arrangement says nothing in my M supplement book?

I recall reading that the M also has an exposed centre jack point at the front which isn't available on the non-M :headbang:

If you search you will find a number of threads on jack points, there's apparently a safe centre point on all models at the rear but I'm not totally sure where it is so have played safe. Picture anyone?

Rear center jacking point is where the two braces meet in the center

Just jack on the bolts there
