Which Soft Top Cover?

Hi guys, which half covers (just the soft top) do people recommend? I'm in need of one as I just can't squeeze the Z in the garage at the moment.

Thanks.

I bought this one from Cabrio Shield
They make two different ones for the Z4, one for short term use and one for long term which is a lot more expensive.
I bought the short term use one as the Zed is quite often in a carport but I have left it on out on occasions in the wind and rain for a couple of days without any issues, although if you leave it on too long when wet it will sweat on the inside.
It is attached by the rear closing in the boot and magnetic strips hold the sides. I have heard that people have had issues with cheaper ones where the magnetic strips have marked the paintwork when it moves in the wind however on this one the magnetic strips are covered in soft material and I have not had this problem.
Hope this helps

Thanks for that! I was looking at one of these which looks to be a copy but slightly cheaper.

Any issues with wind taking it off? The last one I had that secured with straps under the front and rear used to make a bid for freedoms every now and again!

It remained on the car in the high winds last week even without securing the front flanges in the door gaps.
I can't comment on the cheaper one but this may be the one with the magnets on the sides which are not protected so well.

Matthew - there's quite a bit of experience of covers on the Forum. My advice would be to stay away from the heavier half covers and especially any with magnetic parts. They do mark your paint and especially so in wind and over time. Chesherman ruined his paint (black E85) with such a cover and I stopped using both of mine (I bought 2 different types to try and avoid the marking of paint). The best compromise I found was to go for a very light waterproof type (with elastic straps which went under the back and front of the car) - this still marks the paint over time and in wind but it only hazed the top clear coat and this could easily be polished out. The half covers keep the water from drowning your roof motor though so well worth using - or - we have a guy up here who will relocate your roof motor into your boot for £80.
At the moment I use a full cover from CoverZone called a 4 season Stormforce outside cover (about £150). I use two large fleece sheets, one across the front bonnet and wings, one across the rear boot and wings and then put the cover over the top. It has straps underneath the car which clip onto the cover and in high winds I tie (using soft rope) from one wheel across the front and rear of the M to keep the cover on and one soft rope just around the M at the bottom of the screen. I clean the M after every run and before putting this cover on. Bit of a farce but I've found it the only way to protect the paint finish.

Just to update, I ended up purchasing a Cabriosheild for my Zed. Really pleased with it so far. It's been raining heavily and also blowing a gale here for nearly a week. I've checked the cover and it hasn't moved an inch or let any water through.

Pleased to hear of this recommendation, I've just ordered one of these myself as I'm unable to get the Z in the garage at present until I get the MG ready for sale.

I am glad you didn't buy this cover. I am onto my second one of these and it has failed just like the first one i.e. inner lining has cracks all over it which means its now not 100% waterproof and leaves plastic flakes all over my roof. I'm onto my second cover because i complained about the performance of the first cover and they sent out another. Also, the first cover caused magnet marks around the perimeter of my car (I eventually removed the magnets which helped). I think an aggressive polish will take them out however. All in all they aren't up to daily use in British weather.
