Which shocks

I got the part numbers from demon tweeks and cross checked before ordering but now I’ve discovered the UK bilstein website I’m confused. I’ve now contacted Bilstein UK for some advice as I’m getting annoying knocking noises from the rear now, thought it was a loose bolt but I’ve rechecked the torques. I’ve got standard BMW springs (its an M so I’m guessing they’re lower than non M??).

Strange though that from their website http://www.bilsteinsuspensionstore.co.uk the part number I’ve fitted 24-141680 should be ok, but also part number 24-104906 would also fit?

Are B6’s the wrong choice for my z4mc?

They don’t do a Bilstein B8 for the M cars annoyingly so you have got the most updated shock bilstein make for your car without going the coil over route so you should be fine :)
 
My bilsteins knocked on the Rear of my M3 I have bought some Koni sport shocks to replace them as I wasn’t happy with the quality. Mine were b4’s though.

What top mounts have you fitted?

Bear in mind the above discussion is for non M cars which have different suspension, regardless of M sport or not.
B6 is correct for the M, as hops says there is no b8 option. Correct part number for the rear is as you have fitted.

Cheers for the replies guys. It certainly puts my mind at ease.

I’ve got Powerflex rear too mounts (the purple road spec ones). I took my rear shocks off today and checked them over again and refitted. I discovered the rattling noise I’m getting when driving is actually the Powerflex top mounts that are rattling against the car body despite being torqued up correctly. Thinking about replacing with new OEM mounts unless I can find a fix for it.

I have turner rebuildable mounts on the back of mine.

Highly recommend them
 
Do you get any rattling with those turner top mounts? The Powerflex ones I’ve got have a extra reinforcement plate between the body and the top nuts and wondering whether that could be the cause. I’ll have another mess with them tomorrow.

I’ve ordered new Powerflex RTAB’s and hoping they don’t give me any bother...
 
I had these Turner mounts and they were terrible. Knocked from outset and when I took them off one side had an oval inner metal sleeve. You can see in the picture that it's too short compared to the thickness of the rubber and despite being torqued down it doesn't hold together well as the rubber is too stiff to compress that much.

I'd stick with OEM as they were fine on removal at over 60k miles and didn't make a sound. I replaced the Turner with Meyle HD and they were still a bit clunky.
 
There are 2 types of turner top mounts for the rear the ones above and the more expensive re buildable ones. The re buildable ones are the ones to get, I also had the ones above and they knocked like mad!

I have only ever heard good things of the re buildable ones :)
 
Bilstein B4's are basically an OEM replacement shock so it wont be firmer or harder than OEM. THe B4 Sport would in affect be the replacement to the Msport shock and are for cars with lowering springs.

The B6 is an improved performance shock if you want to upgrade.

All are available for your car but i'd be recommending the B6 as fine with Msport suspension and you will find it handle better.
 
I ran B6’s on my 2005 M-Sport suspensioned 3.0 SE

They were absolutely perfect... & would go so far as to say you won’t notice they’re uprated, but their composure was way beyond the stock items
 
This... I find B6s are definitely firmer but compliance is good and body control in another league.

Bilsteins or new shocks n springs - it’s the shocks that provide the greatest improvement, new springs are more likely to knacker old shocks

Simply changing the springs
 
Let's hope the Sach boge shocks have improved in terms of quality/longevity over the last decade or so. The originals were awful in this respect, many failing at relatively low mileage. hence why so many on here looked to move away from them to bilstein etc

Correct. Bilstein B4s + New (frequently Suplex) springs.
