Which seats?

Hi guys,
I hope you can help me. I am going to buy a E89 Z4 as a second car to drive through the summer and do reasonable motorway miles in.
I am a big guy, 6ft 1 and well padded. I went to the dealer today and sat in an Msport Z4 with the sports seats. I got in and out ok, there is limited foot room (i have size 13 feet) but I can get over that. My question is that the one I want has sports seats, do the comfort SE version seats offer more space in the cabin, even a couple of inches, or is the no difference?
If they do offer more room, do you think it would be possible to find someone who would want to swap comfort seats to M Sports seats (manual so no problem with wiring), are the sport ones in demand?

Had loads of Bimmers including M4, X5, 330ci Cab, 530d M Sport Touring, etc
 
I'm 5' 11" & 12-and-a-half stone (when I breathe in), so am not as big as you, and I reckon the Sports seat is only just wide enough for me - primarily because the back and (especially) the thigh bolsters are high & hard.

So, "more space in the cabin" may not be your only consideration.

You certainly wouldn’t have a problem finding someone to swap... :lol:

The M sport seats have adjustable side bolsters from a rocker switch on the base, plus they have a pull out piece in the front to go under your knees, very useful if you’re as big as you are, the SE seats don’t have either option, plus I don’t think they’re any wider than sport seats.

Stick to M sport seats 100% imho.

Perhaps the guy(or gal) who had it before was a skinny blighter and the adjustable side bolsters were adjusted fully in, hence making the seat feel very narrow, just a thought.

Hi I’m 6’3” and very well covered with size 16 feet and I managed the 260 mile drive back home after picking mine up yesterday so I doubt you’ll have any trouble.

Go back and have a proper sit in the car, adjust the seat fully to suit and close the door, I’m sure you’ll be ok :thumbsup:

I hope your proper fitting session works out OK!

I don't know about E89 seats, but a good pair of used E85/86 M-Sport seats regularly seem to fetch around the £700 mark.

Be sure and find the switches that adjust the side bolsters. Also the lumbar support should probably be minimized..The angle of the seat cushion might also need adjustment. Don't laugh, but I like to drive with my US size 14s off. So I wear driving shoes which are slip-ons and are also narrower. The very effective speed control also enables a lot of control including braking and strong acceleration without even using the right foot, which can be relaxing..I also use two memory seat positions just to change the setting for city driving or highway cruising.

I am 6 foot 1, 16.5 stone but not fat. I find the sports seats fit fine with the inbuilt airbags deflated. I am careful gettin in though, I dont 'drop' into the seat as I think that may shorten its life, if you get my drift....
