Which Rear Spring for the M?

Well today I noticed one of the rear suspension springs has gone.

So, after a good search through here I am no further forward in finding out what I need though i know there are several possible versions!

Does anyone know which part number I need for a standard Z4Mr fit spring?

EuroCarParts is very close to work, they suggest http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/B...52fa6ce9caef7ef18262f429687804641fe17f&000073 Is this any good?

I don't really want to lower the car.

Thanks

I wouldn't buy that spring! also its advisable to replace both sides at the same time although I've replaced single springs in the past.
If I was you I would just buy from BMW and get a local garage to fit

You must be able to get an OEM spring from the manufacturer instead of the dealer surely?

Failing that give Jamie at Sopers Lincoln a call, they give some forum discount iirc, also I'd put a pair on

I have a set from my mr , removed at 9k miles, the car only sees dry summer use, they are perfect :-) IMO I'd replace both, very easy to do and I'm guessing you could pick up a used set for 40 quid, once the wheels are off this is a 15 min job each side.

Drop me a line of your interested :-)

Thanks all. Well the plan was to do both anyway.

Thanks for the offer of S/H but I'd rather fit new.

Why shouldn't i buy the part from ECP? Is it the wrong one or a quality issue with that brand?

Looks like I'll have to get the bits from the stealers :-( unless any other thoughts? surprised nobody can recommend any other part - or are lowering springs all that's available?

Because the spring is for standard factory suspension and not suitable for your model. Springs should be replaced in pairs. If you don't want to buy OEM replacement springs, then ring Suplex UK based in Sheffield. Give them the last 7 digits of your VIN number and they will be able to supply a pair of springs, suitable for your car, for around £110 a pair including next day postage. I believe the spring reference is 06231.

I spoke with Suplex this morning, they put my chassis number in and they have 3 part numbers for rear springs 06229, 06230, 06231 none of which, they tell me, are specified for a Z4M.

This leaves me with bmmniparts quoting the BMW part no 33 50 7836827 @ 75.09 + vat ea.

Edit:
Just googled the suplex catalog - whilst what I found is not the most recent version, but then neither is the car :-)

That's where I got my information from. Did they actually say spring ref 06231 was not suitable for a Z4M? If that's the case then your only alternative is to purchase the other springs that you have sourced from BMWMiniparts.

He did state: "these parts are not for the 3.2l Z4M"

I have found an alternative though which I'm thinking about.

Birds BMW have a replacement set of springs they've developed for the Z4m that he says don't lower the rear but do lower the front a bit. - but I'm told greatly improve the ride and handling.

Apparently the original fitment is a variable rate ( I think that's what he called it) which is in fact setup as two rates, the lower rate, once fitted, is effectively not available which leads to a poorer ride and their own bespoke springs are adjusted to allow much better ride etc.

Just one downside - as you'd expect, the cost :-) the fully fitted upgraded set of four springs is about 4 x the price of two std. rear springs (parts only).

Hmmm - need to think :-)
